Is Dilma History?

Maybe at this hour, impeached suspended President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff is waiting for the other shoe to drop.  The Senate is going to vote(may have finished) this afternoon.  Most believe she will be impeached once and for all.  This will end another chapter in the convoluted political process of Brazil that has dragged on for months, if not years.
The Olympic Games are no longer an issue: they are over and done with.  The focus now is on removing the president(done), and restoring some sanity to politics in Brasilia, the capitol of South America's largest country and largest economy.  Our Minister on the ground has forwarded latest updates to keep all Tahomans informed of Brazil's latest efforts to clean up a notoriously corrupt government.
Our Minister believes that change is coming, however slowly.  A new president is necessary to move the country forward, especially given the track record of her predecessor Luis Lula da Silva who is currently defending himself against charges of corruption and accepting bribes.
Expect more turmoil as the next phase begins tomorrow.

Russyan ParaOlympics Team Banned From Brazil

Officials of the IOC-ParaOlympics banned the entire team from this year's events in Rio which are about to begin.   Officials cited a proven record of doping in members of the team and decided it was not worth the effort to police the entire Russyan contingent.   Members of the Russyan organization expressed concerns that this decision was motivated by political policies made by the IOC.  They also pointed to difficulties with Western democracies, such as the United States.  They put most blame on the USA, saying it is a continuation of harassment of all things Russyan.  This argument agrees with the ongoing Russyan positions that the world hates all Russyans because they are so superior.   This position underscores the cultural isolation of Russya that is self imposed for the most part.
Time to get over it.  The world has moved forward(outside of the Middle east), and it would be in the best interest of the citizenry of the largest country in the world to move into the 21st century with the rest of the world.

Who Is Running Russya? A Woman, Of Course

It appears that the economy in Russya is beginning to stabilize
Ms. Elvira Nabiullina
: inflation is now running at about 7%, and next year could be at 4%.  This is sharply down from 15-20% for the past few years.  How is this happening?  Who is calling these policy changes?  Mad Vlad?  hardly.  Mr. Medvedev?  You must be kidding.   Then, who?
It's none other than central-bank chief Elvira Nabiullina.  The Yale educated is a Tatar of humble origins: her dad was a chauffer and her Mother was a factory worker.  She was educated as an undergrad at Moskova State University.  By luck and grit, she was able to enter Yale Graduate School of business for advanced studies in economics.  It was there she was exposed to the heart and soul of modern economics and as an added benefit, modern banking and capitalism.  It is with these American tools she has been able to direct the Central Bank of Russya in a direction that could lead the largest country in the world and its erratic leaders kicking and screaming into the global banking system.  Her primary goal is to reduce inflation  and to clean up the domestic banking environment.  She has already shut down about 20% of the banks that were breaking CBR rules.
Now, if she can expand the bases of the Russyan economy, now based on oil sales, then more foreign capital will descend on the state.  Janet Yellen, announced yesterday at a conference that the Fed will likely raise interest rates in the US before year's end.  This in turn affects global bond prices and will affect investment decisions that seek yields abroad, ie. Russya.  The big unknown is Mr. Vladimir Putin and his foreign adventures in places like Syria, Turkey, Iran, etc.  All of these could torpedoe any or all of Ms. Nabiullina's efforts to assist the country's efforts at improving the economic outlook for 200 million Russkies.

The Wild West: Artists' View-SF Legion of Honor

The Bronco Buster-Frederick Remington, 1885
Had a nice visit to the Legion of Honor Museum in the City.  It was a foggy, summer day, as usual, at Land's End.  Not much in the way of crowds.  The special exhibition focused on the American West as seen through the eyes of many artists using various media: photography, watercolors, oil painting, and mixed media.
The statue above, in bronze, by noted sculptor Frederick Remington, captures the image so representative of the cowboy: a man astride a rearing horse, defiant to the saddle and harness necessary to the rider's command and control.   The cowboy has the upturned wide-brimmed hat, the full mustache, the riding crop cocked back in midair, about to strike the animal.   His legs are wrapped in "chaps", the ultimate symbol of a cowboy at work.  The posture of the rider indicates his experience at breaking in new horses: he is leaning into the shoulders of the rising animal whose fore hooves are posed almost at the level of the saddle, and the spurred boots of the rider are taught against the stirrups to brace the man against the struggle.  Remington captures the action in minute detail, accounting for all the parts needed to accomplish this Western scene.
Also included were landscape paintings by Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran.  One of the Upper Sacramento River depicting an idyllic landscape without any intrusions by man, a favorite Bierstadt theme.  The other of the Grand Canyon, seen from one of the rim views that gathers in the various rock formations that identify that famous location where the Colorado River has carved its legacy for humanity to observe.

Russians Take One From North Korea's Playbook

Just this week, Russyan security forces have detained a Japanese citizen in the Kurile Islands, north of Japan and still contested after 70+ years.  Russya seized the islands in mid-August 1945 when WW II was at its end.  The paranoid Russyans, reflecting Stalin's own paranoia, seized them when the US and other Allies weren't looking in their direction.  Given their east coast location, most Russyans don't even know of the existence of these barren rocks.  They will get more attention next month when Prime Minister Abe of japan meets Pres. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, president of the largest country in the world, meet in Vladivostok for talks about: economic goals; energy sources; trade; foreign exchange rates; American football; 2020 Olympics in Japan; Girls; Pokemon'; and of course, the Middle east and Syria.
Japanese diplomats have requested a meeting to discuss the fate of the citizen captured by Russyan security thugs.  Japan has long protested North Korea's activities in this area.

American Surprises Field in 1500 Meter Run

Nobody predicted the winner of the metric mile at Rio last week, excepting the father of the winner, Matthew Centrowitz.   The 26 year old American recently set an American Olympic trials record in the 1500 meter run.  He also was a contestant in the 2012 Games in London, coming in 4th.  However, this Gold medal run was his first major victory.  His father, also Matt Chenowitz, was a runner in the '70's at U. of Oregon in middle distance: 5-10K events.  (Genes in play here?)  He is coached by Alberto Salazar, a noted runner from his father's era.   Matthew trains in Oregon.
His Gold medal at 1500 meters is the US 1st medal since 1908.  Yes, 108 years ago.  That's quite a drought.  Salazar has been under scrutiny of late by anti-doping investigators, but nothing has emerged that has tainted his program.   Matthew held on to defeat runners from Algeria, Kenya, New Zealand, and Great Britain.  The favorite, Asbel Kiprop, of Kenya, the 2008 Olympic champion, came in 6th as his passing efforts late in the race went awry as he chose to go wide adding more distance to the crowded field of runners.
Nick Willis of New Zealand won a Bronze medal and stayed close to Centrowitz during the final 50.2 seconds of the last lap.   Centrowitz had to pass on the inside of runner Suleiman of Djibouti giving him a nudge to maintain enough running room.   Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria won Silver.  The race time was 20 seconds slower than Centrowitz has run at that distance, indicating that there was no front runner to set a faster pace as the tight group jockeyed for startegic positions as the race unfolded.

Minister Witness to Unveiling In Rio

Our Minister in Rio was present for one of the most unusual events at the Games.  he was at the wrestling finals when a Mongolian contestant was assigned deductions for fouls, thus losing the match.  This did not sit well with the 2 Mongolian coaches present.  They immediately stood up inside the match circle and began stripping off their clothes in symbolic protest of the referee's decision.  It was a very emotional display, by any measure.  This protest did not affect the decision or the outcome.  It made for good YOUTUBE video.  Check it out: MOngolian Strippers.
More to follow from our Minister who has returned to work after exhausting himself in Rio.  Get your rest.  We'll talk later.
I hope you kept the tickets for a souvenir.

Thunder, Lightning Visit Tahoma

Well, we were overdue for some weather, and this afternoon, we got some.   Clouds had been building all afternoon, and around 4pm, things got pretty dark over the West Shore.  Soon enough, the rumbling started.  Then the winds picked up, and the lake surface churned with locals heading for shore.
Rain came in large drops, but not for long.   It has been awhile since we've had any, so this taste was welcomed by all residents.  More, Please.

San Francisco Zen Center

View From Rooftop to City Hall Dome
Zendo Figure
Entrance Hall Figures Zen Center
The Mayor had occasion this weekend to visit a San Francisco institution of world class status: the San Francisco Zen Center.   It recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary at its location on Page St. at Laguna.  The venerable building dates from 1922 when it was constructed about 15 years following the devastating 1906 Fire & Earthquake that destroyed much of downtown.
The building was designed by famed architect Julia Morgan from Berkeley.  She was one of the firat American woman architects to achieve international fame.  At one time, she became the in house architect for William Randolph Hearst, living and working at San Simeon, his estate castle on the central California coast.  It was her inspiration that transformed Hearst's visions into reality, giving the results landmark status enjoyed to this day by millions of visitors.
The Zen Center was designed to accommodate a group of Jewish women who needed a place to live while in the City.  The four stories provided private rooms and many open public spaces to facilitate the residents in comfort and security.   With its two wings opening to the east, the central garden is flanked on the east street side by a covered loggia, now screened with a glass wall.  The fountain in the center bubbles with a small trickle of water.  The ample dining room can seat at least 75 guests or residents.
Upon entry, a large living room with fireplace and hardwood floors welcomes all who enter.  On the left side, a smaller more intimate space can host individuals who wish private discussion.  The layout appears original, with little if any modifications.  Zazen is held in the living room where several figures of the Buddha are present.
The Center currently houses about 50 residents, many of whom are practitioners of Soto Zen.  Its current location is unquestionably at the center of SF's hipster scene.

Olympics

Ryan Lochte: What were you thinking?

Adios, Paul Manafort

Mr. Trump's organization, such as it is, received a resignation from the leader: Paul Manafort.  Mr. Manafort became excess baggage after Darn Old  brought on a couple of newbies who will try to control the uncontrollable Narcissist-in-Chief.
Mr. Manafort's demise as campaign chief came after his dealings in Ukraine came under close scrutiny.  His pay from ousted leader Poroschenko, $12+ millins didn't really sit well with anybody, no matter your political sentiments.  His role as international scumbag-for-hire painted the Darn Old's campaign as just another publicity stunt to sell casino hotel rooms.   This comes on the heels of the disclosure from New Jersey that newly elected governor, Chris Christie, wrote down Mr. Darn Old's tax bill $25 million dollars.(I Would like such treatment).  In the course of his casino bankruptcies in Atlantic City, Mr. Darn Old cut lots of deals, including this one.  Although this one seems to smell worse than most.
Good luck finding a job, Mr. Manafort.  Try Belarus, or Namibia, or Venezuela, or Colombia, or( fill in the blank).

Burning Man :2016

Burners are loading their vans, trucks, cars, campers, and getting ready: opening day is 10 days away.  Preparations at the Black Rock Desert site have been underway for months.  All is being made ready for the creation of another city of 50K souls overnight that will last 1 week.
This year, Tahoma will have one of our own on site to report on the event(s).  During the camp out, things happen continuously and sporadically.  Theme camps put out their own events for a day or even just a few hours: catch me if you can.  Some events are non-events: join if you choose-your choice!   This gives an open invitation to 'Burners' to participate or not:create your own experience.
Our man on the ground will forward candid photos of art works, burners, and conditions on the playa.   Just yesterday, I talked with a US Forest service agent who expressed the "Federal" position that despite efforts of organizers, the playa environment is being damaged by the intensive concentration of folks and their gear at Black Rock.  In his opinion, this could be the reason that a permanent, privately-owned site(Fly Ranch) is the long term solution.   This position easily matches certain environmentalists position that any human presence is disruptive of the 'natural' environment.
So, bottom line: 2016 will be well covered for Tahomans.  Timely updates will be posted immediately upon receipt.

Minister Leaves Rio

Ordem E Progresso
Our Minister on the ground in Rio, has left the various venues to return home to Sao Paolo.  This move is to rest up for his next Olympic foray in a couple of days.  He will be forwarding his much anticipated remarks throughout the week.
I'm sure there's more excitement coming as the Games progress.  Jusy the other day, our Minister had a meeting with US TV personality, Ryan Seacrest, who has been covering the Games for NBC from a Copacabana beachfront location where he mingles with spectators, tourists, and well wishers from all over the world.  Our Minister found it convenient to jump from beach volleyball to international TV.  Well done. Mr. Minister!   All Tahoma has its eyes on RIO.

Russyan Hackers Disrupt Democrats

Information became public over the weekend that cybersecurity experts believe disclosures by 2 internet sites came from hackers who have penetrated Democratic Party computers and records contained in files there in.   A member of the US Congress called the hacking effort a clear move by the Russyan   government to disrupt the United States presidential election cycle.  Using two different venues for various announcements, the alleged hackers have hinted that more disclosures of Democratic Party inside information will be given to wikileaks, the anti-secrecy website that has been active in recent months.
The Republican Party has not "trumpeted" the possibility of new information because the party of Trump has its hands full deflecting numerous criticisms of the words of candidate Trump.  To wit: that "ISIS" was founded by Pres. Obama.  Also, Republican campaign manager Paul Manafort was the recipient of $12 million dollars from the Ukraine government and its Russyan source from 2007 to 2012.   Mr. Manafort denied such financial activities.
Today,  Mr. Trump will travel to the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin to deliver a foreign policy speech.  Milwaukee was the scene of violent protest demonstrations after an armed man was shot and killed by a black police officer during a confrontation after an incident.  mr. Trump's recent poll numbers are plummeting as voters reassess their plans for the November election.  Hillary Clinton appears to be the one advancing in polls nationwide.
This election cycle, unique in US history, continues to provide fodder for all types of media, all related academics, and all voters who have an IQ over 50.  Mr. manafort has some explaining to do; but Mr. Trump has even more explaining to do to his party: why would he hire a notorious international mouthpiece for hire who discards all ethics for a few pieces of silver?  No doubt Mr. trump prizes winning over morals and ethics.  Ane he wants to be our president. Shame on us; but even more shame on the Republican party and its leadership-Paul Ryan and Micth McConnell, and throw in John McCain and Mitt Romney for good measure.  It's a sad state of affairs on the 2016 political landscape.  But, it could be worse(see Egypt, the UK, Germany, Russya, etc., etc.).

Minister In Rio: Keeps Moving

Ordem E Progresso
Well, of course our minister is shaking hands with athletes.  While enroute to one of the events, our indefatigable Minister recognized a young athlete who was a member of the USA Olympic team: a member of the table tennis contingent.  Kanak Jha, 16 years old, was with his brother and parents on their way to a volleyball match.  Our Minister introduced himself and surprised the lad with his being recognized by a fellow American(and fellow Californian).  Kanak is the first American Olympian born in the new millennium,  June 16, 2000.  He was born in Milpitas, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley(next to San Jose).   He began playing at a young and tender age, and by the time he was 9, yes, 9 years old, he was winning competitions.   In the next few years his skills advanced as he grew more confident and grew in physical stature and strength.  Soon, he was an international player as a member of the US National Men's team, traveling around the world.  He's a great story and has been featured in the San Jose Mercury News, USA Today, and the New York Times.
Our Minister explained the beauty of Tahoma and has invited him and his family to visit our mountain town.

Minister Cheers USA Olympians in Rio

On Copacabana Beach after Volleyball Event
Our Minister of Latin American Affairs is on the ground in Rio,(finally).  After a delayed start, he arrived Thursday night to begin his observations and analysis of conditions at various venues.  He is not disappointed.  He attended badminton competitions with the USA v. Cuba-report: excellent work.
He has also attended beach volleyball, men's and women's: great games all.
Today he also has a full slate and will be attending some ping pong action, some track and field prelims, and perhaps some synchronized swimming.   So far, it appears that the Brazilians are scoring a winner with management of the Games.  the opening ceremony was a big hit, despite a lower figure for worldwide TV viewers.  The diving pool water color changed has gotten lots of press: the blue changing to dark green is an obvious issue, but, nobody seems to be overly disturbed excepting the pool cleaners/chemists who are responsible for maintenance.
The weather has been cooperative without soaring temperatures, strong winds, or other malefactors to disturb the athletes.
USA swimmer Michael Phelps has done what no man or woman has ever done before: winning 26 Olympic medals with 22 gold medals.   His swan song in yesterday's 4 X100 medley relay brought more gold to his total.   He appears to be quite humbled by it all.   A great souvenir for his partner and infant son.
He has also reported that Russyan athletes are regularly booed by fans when they enter a venue.  Evidently, locals do not appreciate their doping history, despite I.O.C approval of those not on the track and field side.
Keep up the good work, Mr. Minister.

Putin and Erdogan Meet

So, the beleaguered Premier of Turkey goes hat-in-hand to Moskova to chat with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.   Let's talk about: a.) shoot down of the Russyan plane by 2 of our fighters-sorry about that, b) the gas pipeline through Turkey to southern Europe-good idea, let's do it, c) open up Turkey for all those tourists from Moskova who need some sun and relaxation, d) NATO is no big deal, we hardly even care about that old saw; we don't even give it any money, e) Syria is still sending refugees across our common border, maybe you could help stem the tide, f. Yes, I've taken a few lumps back home recently, but what leader hasn't been pressured lately-look at Ms. Merkel and old David Cameron and Francois- the new normal.
So, Mr. Erdogan wants to calm the waters, send a message to the West that he doesn't necessarily need European approval for anything and everything: he's his own man, even if he can't win approval for his antidemocratic positions of late.  Good luck.

IOC Fails Olympic Competitors

Following in the footsteps of that international pirate group, F.I.F.A., the International Olympic Committee made a last minute decision to allow most Russyan athletes to compete in Rio di Janiero.  Essentially, the committee has allowed known dopers to get back in the pool.   We know that the track and field team from Russya(the largest country in the world) has been banned from the Games; but after a short deliberation, the remaining athletes were given a pass.  This is a sop to Mad Vlad Putin, the architect of most of Russya's current troubles( Crimea, Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, etc).
A case in point occurred yesterday when American swimmer, Lilly King, beat Yulia Efimova in the 100 meter breaststroke for gold with a time of 1:04.93.  Ms. Efimova, 24 years old, is a known doper having been banned  for using steroids in 2013(not that long ago.   Information from a Russyan doctor provided direct evidence that Russya has a program that systematically provides drugs to its athletes as a matter of policy.   The control of the labs at Sochi by the Russyan state security orgsanization, the FSB, underscores the depth of the problem in that country.
Athletes from Ireland, Sweden, and America made pointed comments as to the quality of dope screening of known users before and during the Rio Games.   Their comments ring loud and clear in the face of attitude of the IOC.
Shame on the IOC and its political posturing.   Remember F.I.F.A. and its Sep Blatter?
Perhaps the words of Russyan philosopher Petr  Chaadaev are poignant: " We, Russyans, like illegitimate children, come to the world without patrimony, without any links with people who lived on the earth before us.  Our memories go no further back than yesterday; we are as it were strangers to ourselves."   Chaadaev laments the lack of patrimony, legitimacy, and memory in the state of Russyan consciousness.    Hmmmmm.  An historical basis for modern doping.

Brandon Crawford Goes into the Books

Shortstop Brandon Crawford, a Giant mainstay on the infield, for several seasons, including 2 World Series victories, put his name on a performance only matched 3 times since 1892.  He collected 7 hits in an extra inning game in Florida against the Miami Marlins.   The Giants won the contest closing out the 14th with a win.
Crawford raised his batting average almost 20 points in this one game.   Nice effort, Brandon.
Go Giants.

Obama to Visit Lake Tahoe

The White House announced today that President Obama will attend the  State of the Lake Conference on August 31.  He will give an address that underscores the Federal Government's support for continuing study of the Tahoe environment.   This the 20th annual conference since inaugurated during the Clinton administration.   The EPA and other agencies have committed to the UC Davis campus science center located at Sierra College in Incline Village, Nevada.
Having toured the facility on several occasions, it is clear evidence of this commitment.   I enjoy pulling up the data from the stationary buoys located on the Lake's surface at  5 different locations: very helpful when planning your day.  Check it out.
Get your tickets for Obama's talk soon, supplies controlled and limited to dues paying Democrats.  Gov. Brown, Lt. Gov. Newsom, and a US Senator or two should grace the event.

Changes in Downtown Tahoma

Sign Changes and Additions
The new signs look good-gives the plaza a new look.   The Post Office has a new face:  Margie, a 20-something, replacing the retiring Naomi.  Margie is from South Lake, claims to like the outdoors-hiking, biking, swimming, and of course, boarding.
With Burning Man 2016 less than a month away, the Mayor is recruiting a journalist to record the event in words and photos.   There is a tentative possibility and she owns a local business.   This year's theme: Leonardo and His Machines.  Already the wow factor has been ascribed to some of this years art objects on the Playa.  The organization has also announced the purchase of the Fly Ranch: 4000 acres not too far from Gerlach, NV.  This ranch was the scene of the Burning Man in 1997.  It could become the permanent home of the Playa Art.

Russyans Face New Wallenberg Information

In Sweden and the United States, the name Raoul Wallenberg stirs strong emotions.  The swedish diplomat saved thousands of Jews in Germany from certain death by providing them with passports that allowed them to escape certain death at the hands of the Nazis during WW II.  He disappeared after the war while he was in Eastern Europe when this area was occupied by Russyan Army forces.  His whereabouts were never found, but his arrest by the KGB, or Russyan secret police, is an accepted fact.  Denied for decades that he had been imprisoned by the Russyan government, documents have been recently discovered that put the lie to Russyan statements over the last 70 years.
A book by the grand daughter of the first director of the KGB in June of 2016, sheds new light on the Wallenberg history.  Until now, there was no official mention in any records of the Wallenberg case.  But a chance discovery of a diary of the KGB leader indicates that Wallenberg was executed in 1947 on the orders of Stalin and his deputy, Molotov, as a spy for the West.   Sketchy statements by former prisoners mention a diplomat seen in prison who matched the description of the Swede.  While these statements are few, they do have significant weight in making a case for Soviet duplicity and stonewalling of all inquiries from Sweden and the US.

American Woman Wins First Gold Medal

A teen-aged competitor from the USA won a gold medal in the air rifle competition, besting her rivals at the 10 meter distance.  The former ice skater switched to air rifle only 5 years ago, and became one of its national standouts only recently.   Congratulations.

Obama's Last Vacation

Well, it's August: time to hit the road again.  The nation's First Family joined millions of Americans hitting the road for summer's last fling.  Barry, Michelle, and the girls are off to Martha's Vineyard, the fabled island resort off the Massachusetts coast.  POTUS will play some golf, and watch some or all of the Olympics which NBC will deliver almost around the clock for the next 2+ weeks.  The Pres met with his national Security advisors to get the latest updates before leaving DC.   He wants to keep his eyes on various "hotspots" such as Syria, Ukraine, North Korea, the South China Sea, Iraq, Afghanistan, London, Moskova, Brooklyn, and Washington, DC.
This is Mr. Obama's last vacay as president of the USA.   He may wax nostalgic while on the island, but, probably, he'll wax philosophical, contemplating his legacy and his future, which promises to be even more fulfilling than his last 8 years.   He'll watch his daughters become adults as they carve their own path through life as daughters of the first African-American president. He'll share the future with his closest ally, Michelle, who has steadfastly stood by him amidst the turmoil of Washington political life.
On Thursday, Mr. Obama took a well-deserved slap at Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, leader of the largest country in the world.   He noted, pointedly that he remains skeptical of everything that Mr. Putin says and everything he does.  He explained in brief, that negotiations are continuing over the course of events in Syria, where a "ceasefire" remains elusive, and ground forces continue to press rebels in the divided city of Aleppo.
Enjoy this last hiatus from the White House, Mr. Obama.   The Mayor hopes your golf score is at par.

Bromance Continues : Trump and Putin Home on the Range

Nature Boys Go Western

It is heart warming to see two men share some outdoor recreation activities.  It is especially so when the two are mad Vlad Putin and Mad Sad Trump: bookends.
Pity the poor horse, handling such weight.  Must be one tough nag.

Convention in Philly Ends: Dems Hit the Road

Thankfully, the Democratic Love-In in Philly has ended.   Hillary Clinton crowned as the Party's nominee.  Her speech, billed as the most important of her long career, did not disappoint too many viewers.   her main detractors came from the RNC and its minions.  As expected.
With three months to go, the campaign(s) have an end in sight.  President Obama can pick his spots to assist Hillary during this phase, and lend his considerable support.  Darn Old Trump, the RNC nominee, will continue to tweet his way to November, revealing his gross incompetence as only he can.
Watching parts of the Dem convention illustrated the vast differences between the two parties: one the party of inclusion, the other, the party of something else: the party of Lost Way and Confusion.   How could a party nominate (pick one) a) an inexperienced blowhard, b) a clown, c) a dangerous demagogue, d) a TV reality show host, e) a corrupt businessman, and f) a man out of touch with reality.

Rio de Janeiro: 2016 Summer Olympics Open Today

All eyes were focused today on the long-awaited opening of the Summer Games in Brazil.  The setting was the Maracana Stadium in the heart of the city.   The weather cooperated with warm temperatures and a lack of rain to spoil the grand parade of athletes representing most of the countries of the world.
The United States team was led by 5-time Olympian, swimmer Michael Phelps, who carried the American flag into the stadium in front of the largest team in the competition with over 500 athletes.
The costumes and uniforms always add a memorable display to this unique event.
The smaller countries always manage to gain a bit of publicity as their flags are carried in front of very small groups of qualified athletes.  These games promise to display many record performances, although few will come to the Russian team, because its track and field team has been banned.
For the next 2 weeks, fans will be staring at their SUHD flat screen TV's.   Gymnasts, rowers, golfers, soccer players, all will be looking for a medal.  Only the best need apply.

FSB: Massive Incompetence Lead By Sycophants

The terrorist attack in Moskva is egg on the face of Putin and his Kremlinistas, aka the Ship of Fools. After a warning from the USA...
