Iran Fires Missile

n an apparent challenge to the new POTUS, Tehran fired a missile Sunday that exploded after cruising about 600 miles.  This appears tobe a clear violation of the Nuclear agreement signed by the UN and the US.  State Dept. spokesman says that they are concerned about this provocative action and have noted it could be considered a cause for reintroduction of sanctions against Iran.
More to follow.

Former Naval Officer Appointed to NSC

Steve Bannon, POTUS security advisor, was appointed to the National Security Council.  Demoted were Cahirman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Joe Dunford, and Sen. Coates.  They will only be consulted upon invitation to meetings of the council.   Hmmmmm.

Winemaking 101

wine bottling area

wine bottling facility
A big day yesterday for Mayor: time to bottle up the 2015.  Given the drought year of 2015, the crop was about 1/3 less than average.  This translates into far less at the bottling site.  The day was beautiful, conditions perfect for the effort.  A fining agent-Goldenclar- had been added the night before.  The results were excellent and the final process could proceed.  All the equipment was ready:  filler, corker, hoses, corks, and willing hands set to work.   By 5 pm , the job was done.  After a few days of "breathing and off-gassing, the bottles will receive a seal to finish the effort.  Labels will be added at a later date.
This is the 3rd vintage of our Santa Rosa Pinot Noir.   Pinot Noir is that flavorful red known as burgundy in Francia.   We just finished a French burgundy, Domaine Alain Michelot, 2010.  It was very good, but different than the Santa Rosa version.   This variety is shipped from Baune, in eastern France, near Alsace.

The Geographer and the Casino King

The Prime Minister of the UK, Theresa May, arrived in Washington,D.C. for a face-to-face with the new president(POTUS).  She hardly had her hat in her hand, but her visit underscores her position on the BREXIT issue at home.   The clock is ticking on the separation from the EU, and Ms. May is well aware of this time table.  The better to negotiate a new "deal" with the "self-avowed" deal maker extraordinaire.   Mr. POTUS has called the Brits his fave over 'there'.  If there is an ounce of truth in that, Ms. May just might be able to make a deal.  But it is very early in this presidency, and there's much time and thought before anything is put on paper.
The week also saw discussions with Mexico come out as less than satisfactory for both parties.  A face-to-face with Mexico's President Nieto over "The Wall" was cancelled.  The trade issue combined with the immigration issue was more than enough to cause much teeth gnashing at Foggy Bottom and in Mexico City.  While much ink has been used discussing immigration, the fact is a new law to control the flow is a long way off.  Most economists are trying their best to explain NAFTA to the White House and what it has meant to both countries over the past 25 years.   Yes, there is an unequal trade balance between the US and Mexico, but the trade agreement has continued to improve life south of the border.
On Saturday,  POTUS was to speak with  POR(pres. of Russya).  This conversation would be more symbolic than substantive.  Of the many issues, few could surpass Ukraine, Crimea, Syria, Afghanistan, the Middle East, Hacking of the D.N.C. computers, and, of course, economic sanctions that have helped push the Russyan economy deeper into recession.   Well, maybe they talked about a face-to-face this spring in a neutral country: North Korea? or Kamchatka?  Or Belorussya?  or France?  What would new Sec. Defense Mattis do?  The former Marine general was sworn in this week at a Pentagon ceremony where he was praised by POTUS.
Regarding the hacking of US party computers before the election, Russyan state media announced Thursday that there has been several arrests of individuals suspected of leading the hacking effort.  Names have been published and defense lawyers have responded to various inquiries.   Hmmm.  What does the Kremlin want to do now?   Deflect a little criticism?  The large international computer security company, Kaspersky, has had one of its senior executives arrested and charged with : TREASON.  Yes, don't you just love the Russyans?  What a bunch!   Treason, such an over used word.   Made up to facilitate elimination of opponents, no doubt.   Why would anybody do business with Kaspersky, an obvious arm of the Kremlinistas?  Oh, well.  To each his own.
And then, the executive order to stop the entrance at the border(airports) of all foreign nationals from a list of countries, most notably those in the Middle East that have figured in the news for at least the last 12 years.   Chaos has reigned, especially at US airports on the east Coast that are the primary gateways of these travelers to the US.   Hmmmmm.   How can these departments keep ahead of the pen?  Not easy.
What next from the shores of the Potomac River?  Just wait a day.  Our Minister of Latin American Affairs texted that he will attend a meeting today to look at the latest executive orders.   Many foreign diplomats are concerned that these 'new' orders are illegal.  Already a US judge has issued a stay against further stoppages at the border.   Hmmm.  Different times.

Jerry Brown's State of the State Address

Jerry Brown, governor of California, gave his State of the State address to the state legislature this week.  It was brief, about 15 minutes is all.  The old Jesuit was his feisty self, throwing down the gauntlet to the Washington establishment's new look.  he stated his position on possible reductions of fedral funds to the state, especially those to support MediCal and Medicare programs.  he mentioned that those funds could easily exceed 3.1 billion dollars.  Nobody has to tell him that the coast Democrats are not a majority anywhere anymore and that the littoral environments, both east and west, are fringe elements of the larger country.
 More later
Gov. Brown's office announced that the Governor would be getting more radiation treatment for his ongoing efforts to deal with prostate cancer.  the Governor has been diagnosed for more than 4 years.  He is not expected to lose more than a day of work.

Stock Market Average Soars

The Dow Jones average went above 20,000 yesterday for the first time, marking a new era for investors.  However, analysts expressed a word of caution amidst the euphoria.  Jason Zweig, writing in the Wall St. Journal (wsj.com), stated that history of the market includes the cycles of highs and lows, reaching back to the crash of '29 which brought the average down to a level that took almost 25 years to reach again.  Other crashes followed over the next 60 years, some only recently: the dive after the 2008 recession.
Yes, long bull markets are there, too, but nobody really had insights into the future of the market with justifiable accuracy.
A cautionary tale.  Just this week, the retail sector of the economy has been hit with shock waves as investors in retail shopping malls have turned back properties to lenders, in effect, creating high risks for holders of securities based on real estate mortgages held on mall properties.  Anchor tenants
have been under pressure as online buyers opt out of shopping and brick and mortar locations which offer little to various retail shoppers, especially boomers who recall the experience of mall shopping as it used to be with high quality, domestically produce goods.  Now, the offerings are generally low quality goods produced in China or India or Bangladesh.  While not boycotting these goods or locations, shoppers refuse to make the effort to root out quality amidst the trash at Macys, Kohls, Walmart, etc.

Sao Paolo Mayor to Privatize Assets

Sao Paolo Mayor Doria
Newly elected Mayor of Sao Paolo, Brazil, announced upcoming sales of government property assets in an effort to balance the city's budget and reduce corruption and waste that has been identified by investigators.  Many of the assets include park concessions, transportation centers, race tracks, market centers, automobiles(use Uber), and roadways.
Our Minister on scene has described the response of the populace as positive, although pushback by those employees will certainly be there soon enough.  Joao Doria even dressed as a street sweeper to help the policies.
The new mayor is a successful business man who has been compared to new president, Donald Trump.  "No, says the Mayor. I'm not a Donald Trump clone.  But Michael Bloomberg is a model for me".
     He could do worse.

Highway 89: update

Road closed from Emerald Bay to D.L. Bliss State Park.  Oh, you have a problem getting to Placerville? (County Seat).  Well, don't feel like the Lone Ranger.  Folks in Tahoma have dealt with this issue for years: the far northeast section of El Dorado County is essentially cutoff from the county for most of the winter months.  Despite recent efforts to maintain an open road, Highway 89 is impassable during the heaviest winter months.  It make absolutely no sense for this part of the county to be included in El Dorado.  Simply put, it should be run by Placer County to the north.   They maintain an office in Tahoe City for the north shore and West Shore residents.   What's needed is a determined effort by Westy Shore residents to correct this problem once and for all.
More later.
Could be the best weekend of skiing for the year.  Good high pressure system to sit over the Sierra for at least a week.  Get some.

Matthew Turner :Update

top of rudder
deckhouse getting glased
engine in place w/ hood
Despite the heavy rains in Marin county and northern California in general, work continues on the tall ship Matthew Turner.  Volunteers have continued their efforts to move construction forward as the launch date-April 1, 2017 approaches.
      Current labors include:
Drilling the hull through aft of the bow below the water line.  This is to accommodate the bow thrusting motor to be positioned inboard to assist in tight manuevering.
     Fiberglassing the deck cabins
The above deck portions of the cabins are being coated in fiber glass.  This will protect the entire exterior from the weather and protect all interior spaces from seawater/rain.  While expensive, it is well worth the extra money spent.
The engines have been placed and secured, with the shaft piping ready for the shafts.  No batteries have arrived and their placement will soon be achieved.
Work continues on the steering gearbox and related attachments.  This important position requires much work in close quarters under the aft deck house where the helm will be in position with engine control console.
Caulking of the hull planks continues.

Avalanche: Highway 89 Closed

Near Alpines Meadows Ski resort, an avalanche has descended without warning, trapping 3 occupied vehicles.  Rescue crews from Truckee Fire and North Tahoe Fire have freed trapped occupants, conditions of victims unknown.  There are warning about driving through the area until conditions are assessed by the Cal. Highway patrol.
This is the first incident of its type in many years, an indication of the amounts of snow accumulating in and around the Tahoe basin.  Conditions around Emerald bay have been a cause for concern as Highway 89 is routinely closed from D.L. Bliss State Park to Cascade Lake road for avalanche dangers during heavy snow falls.
All locals are advised to stay on top of all traffic conditions so as not to become a casualty or a statistic.   This is a real Tahoe winter, after all.

China: Lots of Aluminum Cans

Since 2000, the US has closed 18 aluminum smelters/makers, leaving 7.  Not all of them are producing at capacity.  China is adding capacity.  Hmmmm.   The Obama administration filed a complaint Thursday with the World trade Organization over subsidies it says Beijing provides to the country's vast aluminum industry.  This act is a clear escalation of tensions with China as Mr. Trump prepares to take office.  The complaint accuses China of providing low cost loans to Chinese producers to assist in upgrading facilities and expanding capacities.   Producers also benefit from low cost energy in the form of cut rate coal prices and low electricity prices.  Late last year, Chinese producer China Zhongwanf Holdings Inc. came under scrutiny for evasion of tariffs in 2010.
The WSJ reported that founder Liu Zhongtian had evaded tariffs by stockpilinh aluminum in Mexico.  That stockpile has since been sent to Vietnam.  Mr. Trump's pick for trade representative, Robert Lighthizer has made a career of arguing for trade barriers when partners break the rules, which China has clearly done.   Any trade enforcement action would be the 16th during Pres. Obama's administration.  Other complaints include commodities such as copper and steel.  The complaint was based, in part on a year's worth of research.
Most recently, the Obama administration alerted trade officials to semiconductor issues, alleging that China is trying to steal secrets that could have implications for national security and defense in the USA.

Mt. Tahoma on Front Page

A front page story in today's wsj.com describes one man's efforts to honor those who served our country and left this world without any memorial services.  A former Marine who is also a mortician in Seattle, WA decided that he would step up and assist these forgotten servicemen and women who were passed over when it came time for a proper burial.
He has spent time and money to give these remains the dignified burial they deserve.  The Mount Tahoma National Cemetery near Seattle is the final resting place for these servicemen.  The former Marine makes a point to give each set of remains proper identity and specified location in the Mt. Tahoma location.
A Marine who remembers: well done.

Ice Balls Dot West Shore

Everybody wants to know:  what are those things?  They're made of ice.  No, not snow balls-ice balls!  Naturally formed, spherical balls of ice, are floating on the surface of Lake Tahoe as evidence of a rarely seen(in California) event.  During the winter here, the lake's surface temps plunge when cloud cover persists during the short winter days.  Near the shallower sections of the lake in shore, ice forms a thin layer on the surface.  If winds pick up and blow across the ice, the wave action breaks the ice into chunks which are then spun/rolled and these chunks add  more ice in the form of ---balls.
So, between Tahoe City and Skylandia on the West Shore-ice balls are visible.  Are they good to add to cocktails?  Who knows.  we are waiting for reports to come in to the office.
Watch out for black ice, white ice, blue ice, ice of any sort when driving out there.  Sure you want to ski early with new tracks/powder conditions; but, be safe, drive slowly especially in shaded areas near trees and sheer walls.  Ice is lurking.  Further story and photos at sfgate.com.

VW: Not So Fast, Mein Freund

Well, Ollie, What do you have to say for yourself?  No, It's not Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy fame we're talking about.  It's a VW executive, Oliver Schmidt, 47 years old, busted at the airport on his way home to Germany where he could at least temporarily join his cronies Jens Handler, 50; Heinz-Jakob Neusser, 56; Richard Dorenkamp, 68, Bernd Gottweis, 69; and Jurgen Peter, 69.
He was arrested at the airport in Miami as he prepared to board.  He was indicted Tuesday along with the rest who are in Germany.  All are accused of conspiring to defraud the American public(buyers of VWs) by evading emissions regulations through manipulation of computer engine controls that were over ridden during emissions tests.
VW has already agreed to a $17 billion fine and were just assessed another $4.3 billion fine for criminal wrongdoing.   The company admitted criminal wrongdoing as part of the agreement.  This paves the way for prosecution of the executives involved.  All 6 could face up to 25 years in prison in the US.
The German auto industry has taken note of AG Loretta Lynch' position and will definitely understand going forward that this type of fraud will be dealt with harshly when exposed for what it is: a crime.  The fines and assessments will send a message around the world.

National Championship: Over-Go Tigers

Two teams, one game, winner take all.   The two best in college football for 2016 met in Tampa Bay, Florida.  Playing before a full house, the teams did not disappoint the millions of viewers.   Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for Clemson, put on a show, accumulating 420 yards of offense with three TDs.  The last score came on a pass play with less than 6 seconds on the clock when Watson rolled right and threw a strike to Renfrow who was wide open and didn't miss it.
Alabama was the favorite but Clemson proved to be the better team, dominating offensive play for the entire game.   They used good defense to contain Nick Saban's Crimson Tide offense, forcing them to punt more than they were used to doing.   The Alabama defense spent much too much time on the field and were just worn out by the late 4th quarter.   After 'Bama scored a late touchdown to take the lead, Clemson had its work cut out for them.  They marched up the field completing one pass after another as the Tigers approached field goal range.  They did not stop.  After a penalty moved the ball within 10 yards, Clemson zeroed in on a touchdown effort, not wanting a tie.
After the extra point, Clemson 35, 'Bama 31.
Good game.

Minister Grounded by Storm

Our Minister of Latin American Affairs has been delayed returning to Brazil.  Cross winds at the airport first delayed his flight and then it was cancelled.  He was scheduled on another flight and it was delayed, too.  He is now enroute and hopefully will be back in the summer weather of Brazil and he can head to the beach with all the other Brazilians.
Our Minister of Aviation went to Oregon to check on some fabrications for a project.  At first, he expected road closures, but, it only rained heavily over the Siskiyous and he proceeded to Medford without incident.  Lucky him.
Snow is expected all week in these parts.

Trouble for US State Dept Officer in Mexico

A newly appointed Foreign Service officer was shot near the consulate in Guadalajara over the weekend.  Sketchy details indicate that the victim was shot at close range by a perpetrator who identified him and shot through a windshield at the victim, wounding him seriously.  He has been on the job only a few months.
The F.B.I. is investigating, and Mexican authorities are assisting where they can.  This is not an unusual incident in Mexico, and this officer is not the first to be targeted by various criminal elements pervasive across the country.  Security has been an issue for the State(see Benghazi, Israel) and budget monies have not been raised to improve the situation in many locations where obvious needs are not being met.

Windy: Yes, Very Windy

All resorts and skiing venues around Lake Tahoe were closed yesterday and today because of high winds.  How high?  Real high: 175- 180 mph.  That's easily hurricane force velocity.  Enough force to take down large trees, remove roofs, and send a skier back UP the slope.
Prudence dictates that resorts close, not to mention insurance companies who provide policies for these businesses.  At lake level, things were a bit less windy: 35-50 knots across the lake surface, wind waves 2-4ft.   This is R-E-A-L Winter.   Not for the faint of heart.  Remember the Donner Party?  Not much of a party when you are snow bound without supplies for several months.  Well, thankfully, those days are over, but closing I 80 has its own drawbacks.
Pay attention; look out for washouts along Highway 89.   Stay inside until the storm abates.  Watch TV.  Big game tonight:  Alabama vs. Clemson for the NCAA National Championship.  Might be a good contest.

Jerry Brown Hires Eric Holder

What?  California doesn't have enough lawyers?   Seems democrats in Sacramento want more firepower in the coming war against Donald Trump and his Republican Congressional lackeys.   So, the local Sacramento brain trust decided to spend some tax dollars to hire former US ATTORNEY GENERAL, Eric Holder, to rally efforts to thwart any and all efforts by Congress to shut the pipeline of funds going to California.  Good luck with that.  Eric Holder?   Come on.  He'll not only cost money but the reults may never add up to anything worth the money.
Let's see:  he'll explain federal law.   Sure, as if we don't have a zillion explainers already.  He'll show how to stop Congressional action.  That's why we have the 9th Circuit Court in San Francisco.  He'll talk to Nancy Pelosi.  Everybiody on the West Coast has her cell phone number.   he'll talk to Dianne Feinstein.  See above.   He'll go to court.  Sorry.  He's not the type.
How will we judge his performance?   Count the dollars spent?  Count the dollars received?  Or just look at the calendar at mark off the days employed until we can't take it anymore.  Hmmm.  Eric Holder.  Please, help Sacramento.  Maybe he'll end up a engineer on the High Speed train to Nowhere.  Or maybe a tunnel borer under the delta.  Or........
Good Luck, jerry brown.

Stock Market Creeps up On 20000

The NY Stock market DOW Jones average came close to a record close above 20000 yesterday, but didn't quite make it.  The post election bounce has been good for the market as businesses and investors like what they hear from the Trump transition team.   They like the prospect of lower taxes, even the possibility of a lower corporate tax rate.  They like to hear that federal regulations may become less onerous and fewer in number.   Perhaps some agencies will be removed entirely.  Wouldn't that be a boost to everybody?
But, the market has been a little wary of jumping ahead of itself.  International markets keep looking to China and its handling of the yuan as the government attempts to keep it from falling further against a surging dollar.   The issue of the UK exit from the EU(Brexit) has roiled markets in Europe and America, while the ongoing conflict in Syria keeps all eyes on the Middle East.   Woe the market maker who neglects to factor in the action of Saudi Arabia and Yemen in their calculus of events in that region.
Then heap Ukraine and Crimea into the mix and one can better understand the reluctance of institutional investors to throw funds at any stock or bond in this market.   Nobody has a crystal ball that affords a forward view of events.   And don't forget the largest country in the world, Russya, and its madcap leader, the former FSB agent, Putin.

China and Ivory Ban

For years, environmentalists have put out the word that African elephants were being slaughtered in record numbers for their ivory tusks.   Many of these pieces of ivory ended up in China to satisfy demand for the exquisite carvings that are popular among certain collectors.   This week, the Chinese government finally announced a ban on the sale and trade of ivory in the country.  Many pieces have been confiscated and traders have been put on notice that the game is over.
Perhaps this will tamper the trade in Africa.  Perhaps local hunters will find no market for their illegal gains.   Perhaps poachers will seek other game instead.  Maybe the herds of elephants will start to replenish their numbers.  Maybe.

US Intelligence Leaders Put the Finger on Putin

The US National Intelligence head reported to the Senate that they are confident that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin ordered his state hackers to disrupt the US presidential election by creating doubt among US voters in the democratic process and to tilt the election in favor of Donald Trump, away from Hillary Clinton, the percentage leader in October.
Whereas it has been stated that this was the case sometime ago, the official report came out only Thursday of this week.  Mr. Clapper, agency head, spoke to senators directly, explaining the content of the report minus the secret sections not made public for security reasons.
Although President Obama has only days left in office, he could still put in place sanctions against the Russyan government in addition to those already in place.
It would seem this would be more than appropriate, given the factual nature of the report and the severity of the tampering efforts by a foreign government.  President -elect Trump has repeatedly questioned these assessments by the intelligence community, but in the face of this report, he has been forced to respond with a different position.  What he might do when he is in the White House remains to be seen.

Lake Oroville: @93% 0f Avg

Californians have been concerned about state water amounts for several years.  Media has the topic "inundated" with coverage, as though they were beating an old horse, to the point that the citizenry has about had enough of this relentless barrage of bad news.  Throw in all the climate change scare tactics favored by Jerry brown and his minions in Sacramento and you have massive fatigue on the voters.  So, some good news: Lake Oroville, the largest of the Sierra dam/water storage units, currently is at 93% of historical average.  The current storm cycle should push water levels to well above that figure, maybe even close to capacity.
This represents a milestone in local water administration.  So much of California's economy is ag based, that water determines the health of the state's economy.  This also translates into the effect on the economy of Mexico and Latin America where most of the remissions are sent from workers who are paid in dollars in California.
The annual snow storage measurement will soon be taken, if agents can make the sits(s).   Given snow levels and amounts falling today, the point will be moot: there's a lot up there!
So, stay dry, wax your skis, and get ready for powder.

Chinese Investors Told to Look Elsewhere for Investments

So, on top of steel tariffs and aluminum tariffs, the US is now restricting access to computer chips for China.  Given that the Chinese government is involved in everything and has become adept at stealing trade secrets and copying designs and processes from abroad, it comes as no surprise that clamps have been put on China's attempts to pickup companies that make state of the art semicunductor chips that can be used for military hardware.
'Bout time.  The US has had a law on the books since 1975 and it appears this statute will be invoked to put the brakes on Chinese purchase of any company that is involved in the manufacture of these special chips.
  Take that, mr. Xi.

Weather at Homewood

More snow: powder conditions.  2 feet of new snow falling.  72 hours of snowfall.  Yea.
Update
I-80 Closed currently from Colfax to the Nevada state line, or for 50 miles, both directions.  It take serious snow to cause the CHP to make this drastic move.  Motels along the way, hotels in Reno and truckee are getting unexpected clients tonight.
Winter, not easy sometimes.   Good for powder skiers, though.
Update 1/5/17
My source at South Lake Tahoe/Myers reports serious snow on the ground not far from the airport.  He says that he can't shovel or blow the snow on the ground: too heavy, too wet, too much.  He's trapped for the time being.  But, he's prepared, with lots of soup, fire wood, and a warm comfy bed to pass the nights.  Good luck, Amigo.   I -80 open for now.

National College Football Championship: 2017

Here we go again:  Alabama vs. Clemson.   On January 9th, football fanatics will get to watch a reprise of last year's contest.   It could be worth the effort-or not.   With some players refusing to take part in post season play for financial reasons, the NCAA is deep in discussion about the future of their franchise and all its financial arrangements.  Players at the college level have been exploited forever, but now, thanks to more information and more efforts to challenge the NCAA, the "game" might be changing.
Christian McCaffrey of Stanford University, decided to forego post season play.  He has decided to enter the draft of the NFL and expressed his concern about possible injuries prior to drafting rounds.   This explanation does not really concern the entire debate, much of which centers on the use of images in video gaming scenarios.   The NCAA is making furious attempts to continue their monopoly at the expense of players and schools.  Some conferences have now established their own TV networks in an attempt to eliminate the middlemen: the TV conglomerants who gain most of the advertising fees.  Finally, they might just be making inroads into another monopoly supported by Congress and others for all these many years.
So, sports fans, enjoy this contest.  It will probably be the last of the breed.  The Rose Bowl, the ancient bowl of bowls, provided an entertaining melee between the local favorite- Univ. of Southern California and Pennsylvania's Nittany Lions.  A seesaw battle saw a late 4th quarter comeback by USC after improbable turnovers.  Tied at 49, the teams battled for field position to squeeze a possible victory from a game that seemed to lack any respect for defense.  With no time on the clock, USC put a kick through the uprights to claim the title of Rose Bowl victor: 52-49.   Too bad for you, Penn State.

California Cities to Fund Immigration Lawyers for Illegals

In an affront to all lawful residents and local taxpayers, some California cities are funding legal fees for illegal immigrants who may or may not be deported after Mr. Trump, the president-elect, is sworn in a 2 weeks.   The legislature in Sacramento, under one party(Democrat) control, will propose legislation this year that will provide state funds to the same cause.  In a logic-challenging effort, the lawmakers believe that a Trump-led executive branch might make good on a promise to deport all illegals who are lawbreakers(includes most all of them).
In an era of unprecedented public spending and irrational taxes, legislators will take public funds to increase support of the immigrant community no matter their status.   This is one of many reasons Mr. Trump is now the president -elect.

Kristof on Trump

From Nicholas Kristof, columnist at NY Times
"We will soon have as commander in chief the most evasive, ignorant and puerile national politician I've ever met, and while there are many factors behind his election,  I think we in the media contributed by skimping on due diligence."
No doubt, a confession, one of many now widespread across the media landscape.  The mea culpa here joins many others that repeat this refrain: we should have done better for America and the voting public.
Too little, too late.  Enough said.

Weather Update: Snow, Snow, and more Snow

Well, skiers, get ready for some serious powder conditions.  Almost on schedule, a series of midwinter storms will bring up to 2' of new snow to the West Shore.  Wax your boards/skis, get ready.  Crowds will have lessened and lines almost nil.   Now is the moment for 2017 season highs of weather/temps/snow.
It will be a god start for the New year
HAPPY NEW YEAR

Biden Hosts Island Nation Leaders

In the first ever meeting among Pacific allies, President Biden hosted a tripartite meeting in Washington, DC. His goal: to indicate ...
