Near Alpines Meadows Ski resort, an avalanche has descended without warning, trapping 3 occupied vehicles. Rescue crews from Truckee Fire and North Tahoe Fire have freed trapped occupants, conditions of victims unknown. There are warning about driving through the area until conditions are assessed by the Cal. Highway patrol.
This is the first incident of its type in many years, an indication of the amounts of snow accumulating in and around the Tahoe basin. Conditions around Emerald bay have been a cause for concern as Highway 89 is routinely closed from D.L. Bliss State Park to Cascade Lake road for avalanche dangers during heavy snow falls.
All locals are advised to stay on top of all traffic conditions so as not to become a casualty or a statistic. This is a real Tahoe winter, after all.

Lake Tahoe, California's Alpine playground, is anchored on the west shore by Homewood/Tahoma, straddling two counties:Placer and El Dorado. The mayor of Tahoma posts information related to the area and items of interest to residents and visitors alike. Its goal is to be informative, humorous, and timely. Hope you enjoy the site.
