So, you put your hard earned savings into a local bank. The Beijing pols say it's a good bank. Many of your family and friends do the same. And then- disaster: the bank closes. Calls to the bank go unanswered. Bank cards don't work. Frustration mounts. Fear sets in. The money you saved is gone. Your friends say the same thing: no bank, no money. Protesters gather in the center of these agricultural locations to protest. The Beijing response: send in the thugs. Protesters were beaten and told to go home. Bankers were unavailable for comment.
Hmmmmmm. Welcome to the "other" China. That China beyond Hong Kong and Shanghai. The China where half the population still lives and works. Government officials claim they are investigating.
