42 million Americans will travel more than 50 road miles from their homes this weekend. That's a lot of petrol to fuel those trips. States will reap untold benefits by taxing each and every gallon of gasoline. This will fatten up state coffers even more as these state governments have become so adept at extracting money from the pockets of we laborers. Here in California, the tax bite is driving people mad and driving them to drive themselves elsewhere to live. This move will save each working citizen thousands of dollars, not just long term, but immediately. The tax burden in California borders on the ridiculus, and that's just the taxes we know about. There also exists hidden fees attached to many, many different items across the landscape. But a piece of lumber-pay a fee. buy a can of paint-pay a fee. Have a cell phone plan? pay a fee. It is really endless. It helps explain why so many Californians feel they can't get ahead, we are just spinning our wheels, unable to get out of debt.
So, a nice relaxing walk along the shore lifts the spirit, lifts one's mind above these worldly concerns. Sugar Pine Park shoreline is a great location: the path is almost in the lake and traverses the foot of the hill in front of the venerable Erhman Mansion perched above, overlooking the broad blue of Tahoe. Lots of folks were enjoying the weather here, splashing in the clear water, challenging their ability to stay in the cold water. A few boats were clustered together right off the pier, lounging, enjoying the scene in the afternoon sunshine. A few clouds were seen near the Nevada shore, but no evidence of any smoke residue which has been a frequent visitor the last couple of years. Will this year be better? We'll see.
Happy 4th
