Italy Steps Up Action on Islamist State

Italy, of Europe's southern border, has spoken out at the UN on current affairs in Libya.  Sebastian Cardi, Italy's UN ambassador, told the UN Security council that Italy was ready to train Libyan troops and provide continued support of the Libyan Government actions against Islamist State fighters.  Italy has also called for stepped up International help in Libya.
Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni told parliament that conditions in Libya were deteriorating.  Italy is usually the location goal of North Africa refugees who seek shelter from unrest and violence in their home countries.  The EU has been noticeably cool in providing assistance in the area.   Warnings of a broken state on Europe's doorstep have been sounded before.  This has the ring of renewed urgency.
