A late afternoon thunder storm rolled across the lake, south to north, bringing an intense downpour with it. The wind kicked up and heavy rain pelted the house making quite a noise. From the Mayor's perch overlooking the south lake, we could observe the front end of the squall as it moved north. Beach goers at Meeks Camp watched, waited, then got up and ran to their tents and campers as the rains came down.
Given the dryness of the basin, there wasn't much runoff as the ground soaked up most of the 1 1/2 hours of rain. I'm sure the Forest Service Firefighters are happy with this moisture dampening the fire risk.
The accompanying thunder and lightening was fun to watch and hear. Great forks of blazing electrical bolts spiked down around Rubicon Peak at around 4pm. Any sparks were quickly doused by heavy rain. Summer in the Sierra, always interesting, more to come.
