Highway 89 is busy this late August day: bike racers are leaning on their handlebars streaking along, heads down, as they make their way on the second leg of the annual West Shore event. Spectators line the route, especially in downtown Tahoma. The CHP is providing some traffic control at crossing points at Sugar Pine Point and near Homewood. Auto traffic is light at 7am, as expected.
The weather is perfect and most of the residual smoke and haze has dissipated. This summer, no surprise, the lake basin has been smokier than last year by quite a bit. Late yesterday afternoon, visibility was very poor: mountain tops on the Nevada side were obscure, even after 7pm.
I wonder how the swimming event went? Seems the surface conditions were good: flat, no wind. I even saw a water skier! A rare sight these late summer morning now that schools have opened down the hill for the new year.
Lake Tahoe, California's Alpine playground, is anchored on the west shore by Homewood/Tahoma, straddling two counties:Placer and El Dorado. The mayor of Tahoma posts information related to the area and items of interest to residents and visitors alike. Its goal is to be informative, humorous, and timely. Hope you enjoy the site.
