Highway 89: Goodbye Eagle Rock Hazard

Not Easy at Eagle Rock with Black Ice on Road

Eagle Rock Victim on Highway 89
Just this week, CalTrans did all local drivers an enormous favor: they removed the protruding offensive boulder on the side of the road that jutted into and onto the right(southbound) shoulder.  This conspicuous obstacle presented a noticeable hazard for all drivers no matter your vehicle.
At this site, opposite another boulder on the eastside or northbound side, the highway was at its narrowest point along its entire length.  It appeared to be an extension of the larger Eagle Rock, the popular overlook visited by countless sightseers to the West Shore.
Highway 89 is being widened where it has been needed forever.  Who knew it was part of the overall project?  I guess not too many locals had a soft spot for this offender.  It will make the drive to and from Tahoe City much safer.

Gas Up
Need propane?  Now's the time to load up.  Lower oil prices have driven all fuel costs down.  Propane at retail is at $0.375/gal, almost $1 dollar cheaper than last year.  Remember, this is retail, so there's lots of room to negotiate on price no matter where you source your fuel.

Cord of Wood
Ready to buy a supply?  Anticipating a big, cold winter?  El Nino?  Buy a cord.  What's a cord?
4'X4'X8'= 128 cu.ft., tightly packed.  Some sellers will argue.  If they do, tell' em to buzz off and take their wood, too.
Most wholesale providers fudge on actual dimensions.   Rarely will one fine full 16" pieces.  While a few are inevitable, any more than 10% should not be in the mix.  If the seller refuses to bend on the calculation, tell 'em to buzz off.  Find a new source; there are plenty, especially after growers haven't had water in the valley to grow orchards.
