Don't Cry For Me Venezuela

Well, things are getting interesting down South.  In that sad place called Venezuela, folks are in a quandary:  which government will I support-that of the dictator Mr. Maduro or the new government formed last week by Mr. Guaida?  It seems that US Vice President Pence explained the position of the US: We will support the new government of Mr. Guaida as the legitimate leader of Venezuela.  Mr. Maduro and his followers are illegitimate.   The military came out and said it will follow the Maduro government despite its obvious failings in an attempt to follow the socialist policies of Hugo Chavez, the late leader.
On the heels of these developments, several other nations came out in support of the Maduro regime.  Who can this be?  Who would publicly put their names on this position?  What bizarre leaders would want to be associated with this depraved leader of a failed state?  What countries underscore their own illegitimacy by siding with this idiot?  Well lets list them:  Cuba, Bolivia, Russya(no surprises here); China(of course), and our Middle East bad actor, home of the perverse government of Islamists, Iran.  So, now we have these nation states jumping in where they have no real interest other than to antagonize the US and its position as world leader.  Perhaps Russya will offer protection to the millions of refugees facing starvation in Venezuela, perhaps not.   Perhaps Iran will offer the refugees a home away from home?  Oh, they are largely Christian-won't work.  Maybe China will offer a refuge, like they have offered their own Uighars?  I don't think that will happen.
The sad events of Venezuela underscores the plight of the people who live there who want food, medicine, and freedom from fear from an oppressive government bent on failed policies of socialism at any price.   Perhaps the "New" government will start by evicting the well-entrenched Cuban operatives that run the country from the shadows.  Time will tell.
Mr. Maduro's Friend and pussycat
