Talks between the US and the Taliban have reached agreements. After years of fighting over the administration of the war torn country, it appears that the end is near. representatives of Afghanistan, the US, and the Taliban insurgents have been meeting and discussing an armistice to end the hostilities. No announcements have been made but the beleaguered country seeks and end to endless strife among its various ethnic factions.
After 17 years and thousands of deaths among fighters and civilians, an end could be imminent. This would accomplish many things for all parties involved: 1) a peace of sorts, 2) an immediate cessation of injury and death among the population, 3) a withdrawal of foreigners, 4) a stability created to facilitate the rebuilding of cities and towns across the landscape, 5) a return of refugees from surrounding countries and abroad, 6) an increase in support of national leaders, 7) an increase in business and agricultural production, 8) an increase in foreign investments, 9) an a decrease in insurgent activities and suicide bombings nationwide.
All of these are to the good of the people. We will be watchful.
