In a public message from the Dept. of The Army, it was announced that 2 regular units would be rotated into foreign war zones to supplement forces existing and to bolster the commitments that already are a fact of life for US forces.
The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Div. will deploy to Korea for a Winter rotation to South Korea. They will replace the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Div. They will encamp at Camp Humphreys. This new base is 40 miles south of the base at Yongsan, Seoul, the capitol.
Meanwhile,, at the same time, the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Div. will be rotated this winter into Afghanistan. They will replace the 82nd Airborne Div. Combat Brigade as part of the commitment of Operation Freedom Sentinel. This unit is currently at Fort Drum in New York State.
These units will join 2 others: the 3rd Security Force from Fort Hood , Texas; and the 10th Mountain Division Combat Aviation Brigade out of Fort Drum, NY, also deploying to Afghanistan this winter.
