France, Paris, and the Garbage Strike

Can you smell Paris yet?  After floods caused a total disruption of the City of Paris, labor strife has added to the mix.   Union members of the refuse collectors' union, went on strike early this week in protest to changes in terms of their contract.  Not all districts were affected, only those with union contracts working with the parisian government.  Half the districts have private collection and those were not affected.
As summer approaches and tourist season gets into overdrive, a lengthy strike could cripple an already shaky economic outlook.
Let's hope that cooler heads prevail, and talks will reach a settlement soon.  After all, who wants to smell Paris before you see it?
