Governor Newsom Addresses California at News Conference

In his second news conference this week, Gov. Gavin Newsom brought the media up to date on the State's actions to slow the spread across California.  He spoke for several minutes and identified a number of actions taken by the state agencies.  He mentioned Health Dept. activities including a testing of a number of asymptomatic citizens to assess the spread among those without evidence of infection.  He also told of receiving needed supplies that will help medical personnel deal on site with patients who present those  symptoms recognized as evidence of coronavirus infection:
a) dry cough
b) fever
c) difficulty breathing with pain across the chest
He also mentioned being in contact with Federal HHS officials who are working around the clock to see that hard hit states like New York, California, and Washington are receiving all available equipment to address the outbreak.
He spoke with the confidence of a man who can appreciate the state's position as one of the top five world economies, and what effect the virus will have here at home.  He enumerated the number of applications for unemployment insurance, reaching over 100K yesterday.  Today's figures were not available late this afternoon.  Apparently,  unemployment numbers could reach the numbers not seen since the 2008/9 recession.
