The International Olympic Committee announced yesterday that the Summer Olympics of 2020 in Tokyo will be conducted in 2021. In response to the concerns of athletes the world over regarding local training restrictions, the IOC decided after much prodding to make this momentous decision. This decision affects many participants: the city of Tokyo itself; the Japanese government and the local economy; all countries prepared to send teams of every kind; individual athletes who may never have another chance to participate in a career -defining event; those avid fans who had planned to visit the Land of the Rising Sun for an Olympic moment.
Will the Games actually happen in 2021? Nobody is willing to speculate on the possibility of another delay.
