Panettone Season is Here

So, Thanksgiving is over, finito, completo. Christmas trees are on the stands, in the lots everywhere. It happens fast now as retailers attempt to lure shoppers immediatemente. dd to this situation are the customary seasonal products, not just fir trees and holly branches, but food items, especially the " big Bread" aka panettone, that famous Italian specialty. What is it, really?

Panettone is a baked bread, sweetened and its shape is a rounded dome with a paper wrapped bottom section, similar to a large cupcake.  It is a light yellow color on the inside of the loaf with a browned top. The entire loaf is 'peppered' with fruit glace' including citron and raisins which give the loaf additional texture. It is generally very light in weight, not dense as in daily bread loaves. It is eaten in various ways, depending on the preferences of the buyer and the family. The Mayor prefers slices to be toasted, minimally, then lathered with salted butter. Occasionally, a bit of fruit jam is also smeared across the face.

Combined with a caffe' latte or cappuchino, it is the best way to start any December morning.

Buona giornata tutti.
