The Case of Jimmy Lai

Hong Kong police arrested activist Jimmy Lai last week on a variety of charges related to his anti-Beijing activities. Hmmmm. Why would Beijing target such a well known individual? To create fear among his followers and those who might be contemplating similar activities. It's such a weel-worn move that it surprises few. What is not well known is Jimmy Lai's catholicism. He is a well known Catholic lay person, maybe the most well known Chinese lay Catholic. Some are asking the question: "Where is Pope Francis on this clear abuse by Beijing against another religious figure associated with a minority faith? Clearly, Pope Francis is aware of the situation; however, no statement has been forthcoming from the Vatican. We know that the Pope is increasingly getting involved in international politics and he is aware of religious activities in many countries that are home to Christians and Catholics. The world wonders?
