Well, yes. it IS snow. And, yes, it's April. And yes, the ski resorts are closed. So driving has been difficult, especially for visitors who didn't check the weather forecast. No chains/cables? You are not allowed to proceed. The Highway Patrol is vigilant and knows the hazards of driving during heavy snowfall.
Locals usually just put the traction on 4 wheel drive and slow down. Makes sense, even in late April. Enjoy the late season white stuff. My friend, John, texted me fotos ifo his home in Meeks: all white down to the beach at the resort.
