Tahoma's friend, Tom Stienstra, wrote a nice column the other day, giving tips on viewing fall colors in the Sierra. Included was a nice photo of our lake, from the north shore. With the spotted clouds across the sky and the rocky shore in the foreground, the photo took on characteristics of an impressionist painting:

Lake Tahoe with Fall Colors |
He highlighted the aspen groves along the road to Fallen Leaf lake, off Highway 89 just past Cascade lake area sign. We know that aspen grove and it is a great sight if your timing is right. In about another week or so, colors should reach their peak inside the basin. Have your phone ready.
The foto credit goes to Jeff Dow.
Stienstra also mentions the "super moon", a full moon when the satellite is closest to the earth, an event that will not be seen again until 2033. Atmospheric conditions caused a reddish tint to the reflected sunlight of the moon, giving it some additional notoriety, causing viewers to congregate at various observation points around the lake last night.
