Blue Boy: 1770, T.Gainsborough

Thomas Gainsborough's Famous Boy
This famous painting from 1770 is at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California.  The mayor had the opportunity to view the masterpiece in its current setting as it is undergoing a thorough renovation which will take at least a year.  Many corporate sponsors have put their names beside the work as restoration specialists work their magic/expertise.   At 5' 10" tall the painting has the size that helps viewers appreciate the artistic talent of Gainsborough, the master.  The Huntington Library is one of the many treasures to be enjoyed when visiting Southern California.
The estate of the late Henry Huntington and his wife, Arabella, is magnificent to behold.  While America did not, does not have royalty, it makes up for that by enshrining millionaires as the new royalty of self made capitalists.  At one time, Arabella was the richest woman in the world, wealthier than the Queen of England.   The 130 acre estate is home to many structures and gardens in addition to the library itself.  The estate brings its treasures to a\over 500 thousand visitors a year.   It is beautifully laid out and can accommodate the throngs that arrive throughout the year.
Don't miss this location when visiting Pasadena.
