So Long 2022, Hello 2023

Well, we all have about 90 minutes left of 2022. Quite a year, wasn't it? I know we've heard too much about Trumpy; too much about Elon Muskrat; not enough about the Qatar World Cup; not enough about Covid; not enough about the Supreme Court; not enough about the January 6th Attempted Coup Insurrection by Trumpy supporters(including R. Stone, Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows, and everybody's fave: Rudy Giuliani, the pathetic former NYC Mayor.

We all look forward to a year of getting back to what we want to call normal. Southwest Airlines has a different take on "normal". Normal for the airlines is customer abuse on a grand scale at exorbitant price points for a cramped, very uncomfortable seat. The tach world will attempt a recovery from crashing stock prices. The FED will raise interest rates; and republicans will continue to slide into oblivion.

Happy New Year

Russyan Oligarchs Have Problems on Vacation.

News media outlets have begun reporting numerous accounts of the deaths of certain Russyans abroad, in foreign settings. It seems there is a pattern among the deaths. Most of those Russyans involved were high ranking businessmen who had been close to or had been owner/operators of large businesses in Russya. Most of them had been recently critical of the Russyan army's invasion of Ukraine. Wherever they were staying abroad, often luxury hotels and condominiums, the oligarch on the premises decided to jump out a window to his death from several floors above street level. Some were victims of what appeared to be suicide. Some murdered their own families before turning the gun on themselves. Hmmmm. Sound familiar? We should ask the Skrival family of London park fame. Or perhaps we should inquire of Mr. Navalny while he is in prison serving his sentence. This all smells of FSB involvement.

In INdia, where one of the recent incidents took place, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation in what was called "unusual circumstances". Maybe the Kremlin calls this collateral damage. Maybe Sergie Peskov has a different answer. Maybe not.

You Russyans can run, but you can't hide. Nothing new here.

Happy New Year

Georgia v. Ohio State Bowl Game

It had the press build up. It had the place: Atlanta, GA. It had the quarterbacks: Stroud v. Bennett III. Georgia would like to repeat as national champion. Ohio St. would like to replace the Bulldogs as champions of college football. The winner would face TCU, the team that beat Michigan earlier on New Years Eve day, Saturday, December 31, 2022.

What a game! It came down to the last seconds: Ohio, with less than 2 minutes to go, started the drive on their own 25 yardline. They were behind after Georgia engineered a scoring drive that put them ahead, 42-41. Stetson Bennett threw two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to have his team retake the lead. Ohio St. gave up a huge lead they had after the 3rd quarter. But, their defense could not handle the Bulldog offensive game. With a few seconds to go, Ohio St. lined up for a 50 yard field goal attempt to win the game. Their kicker approached the ball and missed the right contact point and the ball shanked to the left, missing the uprights completely. Georgia fans reacted appropriately.

Bulldogs versus the Horned Frogs for the championship next week.

Comrade: Let's Go to Turkey and Join Our Other Comrades

So, Turkey is accepting those "tourists" from Moskova who don't like the weather near the Kremlin. Now when they say "weather", they really mean the occupants of the Kremlin.  They don't like Mad Vlad and his oligarky insider murderers. So, they end up owning an apartment condo overlooking the sea. It's calming. But, the shopping is easier here than the streets around Red Square.

The Turks in and around the  large resort city of Antalya on Turkey's southern coast have mixed feelings about the arrival of so many Russyans who have money(rubles) to exchange for lira. These former vacationers now are staying for the duration. No more return flights "home" to Mad Vlad's wartime scenario; no more listening to "fake news" via RT radio and tv. No more listening to the puppet voice of Sergey Peskov or former president Medvedev. These Russyan expats want peace and quiet which are unavailable west of the Ural Mountains(the European Russya border). Here they walk the beaches in the greyscape of winter, shaking the rabble rocks underfoot, gazing across a calm Mediterranean Sea to Cyprus east or Crete to the west.

Obvious signs of local  change can be found in the price of real estate: prices have gone up, up, and fast. Locals sell at unimaginable figures to new arrivals who are loaded down with the rubles they received when they sold their homes in St. Petersburg or Moskova. They sipped a few shots of state produced vodka, swore they would never return to this god-forsaken country, and fled to Turkey. This story can be retold all over the world as it seems people are in motion on every continent, trying to flee oppressive regimes,  violent rebels, and state actors funded by oligarchs and dictators. And then there's North America.

But for now, Turks must accept the northerners with money: the Turkish government under Erdogan needs foreign exchange: desperately. Inflation is rampant, and Erdogan wants to turn the clock back. Hmmmmm. Sounds familiar to all the Russyans walking around Antalya.

Luka Doncic: He Can Make a Basket

Luka, the 23 year old, 6'7" guard on the NBA team, scored 60 points in a game the other night. Not too bad a night. He also had double numbers in rebounds and assists, known as the triple double. Some folks think this is just the beginning of a Hall of Fame career. His Dad was a player and a coach, and Luka seems to have the athletic ability he inherited from Pops. He's fun to watch; not as much as Steph Curry, but almost. Fans like watching players that can do just about anything on the court. That's why they pay high ticket prices: for the love of the game and the artists who make it such great entertainment.

He's from Slovenia: his parents are both Slovenian and Serbian. And he was born with that indispensable feature: HEIGHT. Oh, well, we all can't be 6'7". But, he is a joy to watch as moves about the boards and under the hoop. Keep up the good work; we all need a lift!

Weather Watch: Sierra @ End of 2022

We wanted snow/rain: and here it comes. Just be ready: we have about 60 hours to get ready as the forecast  says Saturday morning or New Years Eve day. Maybe upwards of 5+' of fresh snow, more at the highest peaks above the Lake. Good for the future but not the holiday weekend. Stay home. Already here-ski tomorrow and Friday then go home.

Driving will be impossible on I-80 and US 50(Placerville). Highway 89(West Shore Blvd. will close around Emerald Bay and Cascade Lake. So, don't gamble. People are freezing to death in their cars in the Northeast. Be smart. Don't be a victim. Stay warm AT HOME! Please.

Tahoma is not going anywhere. We will be here, as always. If you will be here, then have emergency supplies ready: firewood, spare propane tank(s). Food, water, batteries, the usual stuff we mountain folk have on hand. It's vacationers that need the advice.

Happy New Year

End of the Year Stock Selloff

December can be good for the market; or not. Look at the tech sector-scary! Look at the energy sector: marvelous-up >20%, almost 30% for some. So, you bought chip stocks and sold oil in February. Too bad for you; Jerome Powell, FED head had another rate increase in his wallet just for you. And now the banks have to adjust to the end of the easy money era. About time. Maybe now speculators and retirees can park some meager funds into federally insured institutions and not chase crypto hoping for a return that will allow them to live without fear.

Buy Bonds; let the banks eat poop. Sell tech, sell consumables.

Tesla Stock Continues Its Slide

Electric clown car Tesla has seen its stock take a hit. Its value has halved in the past year. How can this be? And the company is offering rebates for the first time. Elon, what are you going to do about this? People are losing faith in your disruption activities. And don't send out those ridiculous 'tweets'claiming all is under control. You have no cred' anymore. You are boardering on another SBF tale. No, not quite, but your reputation is on a downward trend, to be sure. Where are the long lines outside of Tesla dealerships? Hmmmm.

The consumer is sooooooo fickle. I'll do this: a new marketing program: buy 1 Tesla electric car, get another for free. Works for ground coffee, why not e-cars? Wait, a computer took over the braking system? Caused a crash? A recall coming? What is happening, Elon? Time to quit smoking top shelf canna-gummies in your pipe?

Happy New Year, Elon. Sell.

Meanwhile:BAck in Ukraine

Iranian-made drones are landing in parts of Ukraine under attack by the Russyan army on their "special operation" designed to kill Russyan conscripts. The US will now intercept the delivery of Iranian drones to those Russyan forces in illegally controlled parts of Ukraine. These drones are made in Iran by Iranians and sold to their client Mad Vlad Putin, deranged leader of the largest country in the world. Mad Vlad is running out of ammunitions; his bungling war mongers are thrashing around the Donetsk region trying to figure out a strategy that could bring a stalemate so the Kremlin can negotiate a withdrawal and save a few peasants' lives while fleeing.

Ahhh, the Kremlin: the harbor of sad Russyans, hoping for a few crumbs from the Czar's table. Maybe a little more vodka in Ivan's cup; or some beluga caviar from the Black Sea sturgeons; or a bowl of hot borscht with a dollop of heavy sour cream with a slice of sour black bread. No, none of this will happen. Winter has arrived; we are stuck until springtime and the thaw. The Dniper River is almost solid, and we will wait.

     All's quiet on the Don.

Happy New Year, peasants, and don't forget to go to church and pray. Ha.

Chuck Schumer: Where Are You? There's Work to be Done

Oh, it's the holidays/Holy Days-no work to be done. But the world keeps moving. Get out of the house and do something. Anything. Please. Another sad tale of woe. An elected official found out to be a fraud. This not unusual, but the breadth and scope is so obvious, why the late arrival of a confession. Did he really think people would know the truth sooner rather than later? What a world. Let us look on Wikipedia for George Santos bio. More later.

George SAntos: Republican Liar

Are you a Republican? If yes, press 1; if not, press 2. If you are a liar, press 1; if not, press 2. If you are a liar and a Republican, just be quiet.

So, Congressman George Santos, a pathetic liar recently elected to Congress, admits to embellishing his resume/experience after NYT's exposed his past misdeeds, falsehoods, and current situation. He'd give an aspirin a headache. And, amidst the hullaballoo, his party says:_________________(nada,niete, nulla).

The Republican party and its leader(s) fit right in with this reprobate. They have chosen by their collective silence, to join in the fraud, the scam, the insult to voters, and the election process. And where was the media before the scandal arrived in front of us? Oh, checking out classified docs at Mar-A-Lago? Searching the backrooms of the place? Or, braying about climate change and Woke topics? Another failure of out trusted friends at the controls of the information dynamo. How about the editorialists-where are they and where is the outrage?

George Santos: go home. Take the Republican Party with you.

Southwest Airlines Debacle: Winter Travelers Stranded

Flying lately? Want to be home for _________? Booked a flight with Southwest Airlines? Too bad for you. Remember next time you fly: SOUTHWEST DOES NOT CARE-YOU ARE ONLY A NUMBER. Some normal winter weather: snow, wind, storms, etc., descended on a large portion of the US over Christmas. Many travelers were notified in time to avoid going to a crowded air terminal. Some were not. Apparently, Southwest failed in providing adequate notification of cancelled flights. Results: you guessed correctly: CHAOS.

This adds fuel to the perception of all airlines: it's all about the money($$$$$$$$$$$). You, paying traveler, are our last consideration. Hmmmm. Is this any way to run a business? Well, just look around: see a corporate entity, see a disembodied legal person without any need to be considerate of paying customers. This, my mountain friends, is the new NORMAL. How long will the citizens of the land put up with this situation?

Nobody in the boardroom cares; nobody in the boardroom can answer the question.

Happy New Year

Adam Shiff Calls Out Republican Representatives in the House

Adam Shiff tells it bluntly: the Republican members of the House of Representatives who support ex-president Trump's lies about his defeat in the 2020 Election are tainted forever by their dishonesty. The fact that numerous sitting representatives, in the face of the truth that President Joseph Biden won that election indicates these politicians have cashed in their morals and ethics to serve the reputation of the worst president in American history.

Holiday Air Travel: Winter Version

Sad to hear of the difficulties travelers will confront this Christmas. Arctic cold has descended on the continent sending temperatures plunging across North America. Even a few southern states will feel the chill. Over 10,000 flights have already been cancelled by major airlines. Finally, with a push from airport managers and public safety officials, airlines cancelled most flights in advance before travelers arrived at the airport, saving that problem. Information was sent that informed those ticket holders to wait at home for updated flight reservations. Many travelers will not reach their intended destinations in time for the holiday.

Such is winter travel: sketchy at best. Even the hardy traveler who thought it best to drive will think twice before hitting the road with snow tires, a full gas tank, and emergency food supply. He'll stay at home by the fireplace. Watch football tomorrow; and praise Santa Claus Sunday morning. Church goers will miss services unless w/i walking distance of the front door. December. It's winter, Pal.

Wells Fargo: A Criminal Enterprise?

The largest Bank in San Francisco, Wells Fargo, was ordered to pay a record fine this week: it was substantial: $3.7billions. This is another chapter in the sinking of the banking giant by its in house employees. One would think this activity was the result of the action of the few. But,as described in the published reports by various regulatory agencies, the apple is/was rotten to the core. Up and down the chain of authority, managers looked the other way as underlings ignored the rules and procedures in hopes of achieving goals set by leadership at all levels. Profits, more profits, greater profits, more, more, and still more. Hmmmmm. A formula for success? No, a formula for thievery; a formula for deceptive marketing; a formula for taking advantage of everyday retail customers.

The fine came years after it was discovered that Wells Fargo Bank imposed fees on unsuspecting account holders who were charged across many platforms related to their accounts. Many customers were attached to accounts created by the bank to generate more income opportunities. The policy included striving account managers who were ordered to ramp up the numbers. It seems corporations have forgotten their role in this country, which is: operate an honest business, federally insured, that provides the retail customer a safe place to park their hard-earned money. Many of us who observed the evolution of banking over the last few decades have been witness to the changes in the banking sector of the economy. Simply put, banks became jealous of non-banks, mortgage banks, investment banks, and international banks. Many institutions wanted in on the action. Regulators started to contend with industry demands for change, and pressure mounted.

Even with regulatory change, growth did not accelerate quickly enough for the big banks. One result was consolidation. Banks were bought and sold. Little regional banks disappeared, swallowed by mega-banks. Customers no longer had relationships with bankers. They just became numbered customers. Personal banking was dead. Wells Fargo changed along with the many competitors in and around San Francisco. Electronic banking surely contributed to these changes. Numbers were easier to deal with now. Soon, phone service was eliminated. Want an answer to your money questions? Don't call us; we won't answer. And soon enough, bankers forgot they had real customers. Banks now just had nameless accounts with numbers for identification. It made things easier-for banks, and nightmares for retail customers. Heaped on top were ATM cards, credit cards, and the closing of hundreds of brick and mortar locations throughout the region. Soon, the shareholder became king. And the king demanded growth and profits, at any cost. And here we are.

It's not over. The bank will pay, take a charge, and continue to fleece the lambs. Yes, a criminal enterprise lives to see another day. Wells should be closed, or better yet, sent to North Carolina to join Bank of America, formerly of San Francisco. They deserve each other.

Stanford University: Home of the Fraudster Family

Stanford University, the esteemed center of learning, located in the Bay Area on the doorstep of Silicon Valley, has been turned into a prison camp. It was announced today that Sam Bankman-Fried, the accused founder of bankrupt crypto currency operatiion FTX, has been bailed out of jail and will return to the Stanford campus in Palo Alto, California, where his two university professor parents live in their home. Given that both parents were heavily involved in the rise and fall of FTX, it is safe to assume they both will be charged as co-conspirators in the fraudulent activities of their older son, SBF.

The campus will again become the focus of media pundits as they descend on  the bucolic 'farm' setting: rolling hills, tall and mature oak trees, deer cavorting among the various department buildings located in the valleys and glens that are found throughout. Perhaps the lawyer/parents will continue to socialize with their many local friends. But prudence says no. The publicity surrounding what could be the largest fraud in American history defies imagination. They all should be put on suicide watch. Old Jeffrey Epstein decided, in jail, he didn't want a public trial that would identify him as a fraudster/human trafficker. He hung himself. His co-conspirator is now serving 20 years in a slammer. So, SBF and family, comfortable at the moment in familiar surroundings, will mull over the coming storm. How much suffering can one endure? How much life do they have left to live? What will it cost them? Their reputations are trashed, finished, emptied of any beneficial considerations. Their superstar son crashed and is burning; burning them and all he touched. His 2 business partners just plead guilty, and agreed to cooperate with the F.B.I. There's is no escape. Stanford is not a refuge under these circumstances. It is in fact, a prison.

Mrs. Stanford is probably rolling over in her grave.

Trump : Taxpayer or Tax Cheator

Congress declared that Trump's tax returns can be shared with the public. Even Vladimir of Kremlin fame can find out how much his Bro paid. During his tenure on Pennsylvania Avenue, he paid $1,000,000 in income taxes. In 2020, he paid :Z-E-R-O! Did you pay any taxes, my friend? I did, as did most citizens of the village of Tahoma on Lake Tahoe's West Shore. We work, we pay taxes. Helps the community survive cold winters, etc.

Trump doesn't pay because he doesn't think he should. Republicans don't think they should have to pay. Corporations don't pay, enough. But that's different. Oh, no. Chief Justice John Roberts says corporations are people(see Citizens United decision). So, corporations are treated the same, helps the bottom line. Now we all have the opportunity to dissect Trump's financial life. And probably his family, too. We know a lot, but now we'll know what we didn't know-the curtain has been pulled back to reveal all to the world. Wizard of Mar-A-Lago? Or the Thief of Mar-A-LAgo? We'll find out thanks to I.R.S. sleuths.

Have a nice day, trumpy.

How Many Aspirin Needed for a Patriot Headache?

Mad Vlad of Kremlin fame has consulted with his medical support staff on duty 24/7 in the basement of the Kremlin. His military advisors told him(after they smoked a few doobies) that the US announced they would be sending a Patriot missile system to Volodymir Zelensky to thwart air attacks by the Russyan air forces. They told him these defense systems are deadly against all types of Russyan arms. This could raise the cost of the faltering war that Mad Vlad ordered in February, 2022.

He was also told he has about 6 months of grace because the US will train Ukrainian forces in Germany during the time before deployment of the missiles. Vovo then asked for the aspirin tablets which he seems to need more and more of everyday. His liver and kidneys are yelling "Enough", but he isn't listening. His partner said, "Stay in the Kremlin until this is over; who needs a grouch at home? Besides, you have faucets that provide vodka in your office. Drink all you want but don't come home expecting sympathy. You started this mess, not us, not the West, not Ukraine. You did, Putz."

So, deeper into his holiday funk he goes. It is common knowledge that many folks around the world get depressed during the holiday season for a variety of reason. The French footballers are depressed because they were beaten in the World Cup Final by rivals from South America(no names mentioned to cause more depression). Some Europeans are depressed because the price of fuel is going up by the day because of Russyan greed and price manipulation. Jews in Israel are depressed(some) because Bibi is back. The Chinese are depressed because Covid is starting a rampage through the population and very few of folks over 60 have been vaccinated and they will die. Dictator Xi is depressed because his slaves are depressed. Jimmy Lai is depressed because he was just sentenced to 7 years for being disloyal to a bunch of Commies in Beijing. Sam Bankman -Fried is depressed because he's in jail awaiting extradition to the US to face charges of widespread fraud. His parents, Joseph Bankman and Mrs. Fried are depressed because they gave their son their names which will join a Mr. Ponzi as architects of large schemes to defraud. Wells Fargo Bank is depressed because the bank was fined $3.7 billion for stealing from their own customers and got caught(not enough, really, despite being the largest ever).

The list goes on and on, but this is part of the human condition. depression, also known as unhappiness with the situation. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is facing a very long winter this year and next. How sad! Maybe he'll find relief in a bottle of aspirin; perhaps not. When the Patriot missiles start their work, Mad Vlad will get even more depressed. Watch for it.

Happy Holidays,

The Mayor

Putin's War Against the Rus

Well, the latest news from the Ukrainian "Special Operations" is not so good: the Rus Army is sliding backwards, again. The Chief Rus Idiot, Little Mad Vlad, is denying the truth- his army, his generals, his equipment, his air force, his plans, his future, are all a terrific 'hot mess'. Let's list his issues:

  1. blunders
  2. Putin summoned many of Rus' most powerful businessmen into a trap
  3. Kremlin spent big on the military. "A new "Potemkin" village went up instead.
  4. Collapsing Front; as Rus' stumbled, U.S. tried to save a Rus general
  5. Divided ranks -the Rus tank commander blew up his own checkpoint, it was not an accident.                                                                                                                                        6.Cannon fodder: word from Putin:"At least your dead son did not drink himself to death", he told a bereaved mother." Obviously words from a heartless man who never raised a son.

Now we hear from Dmitry V. Peskov, the pathetic puppet who speaks publicly for Mad Vlad to house organ, Rus Today(RT). "It's because the U.S. is giving the wily Ukrainians modern weapons and not giving any to us. It's not fair." We don't have to ask what this delusional creep is drinking: state-issued vodka. Easy enough to make, easy to ship in bulk, and quite easily consumed wherever you find yourself: at home, in your state vehicle, on your tank, in your jet fighter, in your hospital bed, in your casket on the way to the burial ground to join your comrades.

Journalists from the West, and the east, and the south, and maybe even from the north(Baltics, Scandinavia, Canada, etc) have been on a mission to analyze the situation in Ukraine and how the Rus appear to be reeling, despite having a superior number of troops deployed in a foreign country. The reportage is in depth, facts are gathered, assembled and a picture has emerged that the world can read. The picture that has emerged paints a grim situation in Ukraine among the population, and the hapless Rus who are scattered willy nilly across the steppe from the southern Russyan border, west to Poland and eastern Europe. As winter descends on the Steppe and Belarus, and Ukraine, the sad soldiers from the northern steppes of Russya start to freeze, start to accept their plight: forgotten by their families, abandoned by their leaders, mercilessly slaughtered by defenders of their own homes. Hmmmmm. And how did Putin think this would go? When madness dictates action, beware. As examples: Elon MUsk' purchase of TWITTER; Sam Bankman-Fried selling dreams and nothing else; Professor Joseph Bankman believing his son is infallible, and Donald Trump thinking that because he was once POTUS, he can do no wrong.

World Cup Final: Blue and White Stripes Win 2022 Qatar

In one of the most exciting World Cup contests in memory, the Argentinians prevailed over a team of determined footballers from France. The game went into the required 2 overtime periods after 2-2 tie in regular time. With the score 2-0 Argentina late in the game, France came up with a penalty kick that put them on the board 2-1. Within 90 seconds, the young star Kylian Mbappe put another ball in the net to tie the contest and send the fans into a French frenzy.

In overtime, Lionel Messi put in a goal for his team with 9 minutes to play. And then, another pk for Frence and Mbappe put the ball into the net to tie with less than 3  minutes to go.

And then the shootout for the win. Each team put their first shot into the goal, Messi scoring for Argentina, Mbappe scoring for Les Bleus. And then, the Argentine goalie worked his magic, blocking a shot and the next French shot went wide. Argentina did not miss, winning the contest 4-2 on pk's. Messi now has his world championship to put on the wall.

Who is Brock Purdy?

Many sports pundits had to do some research after the last 49er football game. Brock Purdy was the last man drafted a year ago. That choice is often derided as Mr. Irrelevant. My, my. How 1 game changes everything. He started his first NFL game last Sunday. And he won. Against Tom Brady and his Buccaneers. 35-7. He threw for 3 touchdowns, and ran for another. He was in complete control of the offense. For a 22 year old rookie, he was beyond impressive. His performance was amazing. His actions have given a boost to a season in need of a boost.

Watch him, too.

World Cup: France v. Argentina

The World Cup final sides is set: France v. Argentina, or Mbappe' v. Messi. Seems like a good contest. This Sunday.

Watch it! It is the 4th World Cup Final for France.

PG&E: We'll Bury 10,000 miles of Electric Powerlines

Sure. In the next 5 years? Sure. And  money grows on trees. The power monopoly that provides power to 16 million residents in Northern California is trying to raise some funds to finance the company's pledge to fix the infrastructure that failed when a few sparks lit off some wildland fires since 2018. The company plead guilty to manslaughter in the deaths in the town of Paradise where 86 residents lost their lives in the Camp Fire. Then there was the Sonoma County blaze that destroyed more than 3000 homes a year later. Oh, woe, woe, woe. Poor stock holders. Play with matches, get burned. I thnk it's time to bring in outside help. This corporation cannot serve two masters: stockholders and customers. One or the other. The CPUC, the overseer of monopolies here in California should be sent packing. It cannot serve two masters: corporations and citizens/taxpayers/customers. Gov. Newsom: he cannot serve 2 masters: corporations and voters. Throw the bums out.

     Maybe next time.

Mr. Bankman and Mrs. Fried: Trouble A Brewin'

SBF has been arrested. His indictment has followed as of today. We now know that his parents have been in on the scheme(Ponzi) since last year or earlier. Both parents are faculty members in the Standford Law School-not your typical set of parents. They specialize in-----TAX LAW. Hmmm. They've gone to the Bahamas to help out. Now they say they won't stay in the big house owned by TFX, son's corporation. Dad has been on the payroll to assist in philanthropy operations. Hmmm. Does that mean he supervised donations to various Democratic Party candidates to the tune of $70 millions? Almost equal to George Soros financial gifts?  Maybe it's time for Mr. and Mrs. Bankman-Fried to retire. Maybe get ready for a financial hit as they scramble to find a defense team that costs under $10K/day. Sorry, when you play in the big leagues, defense costs a whole lot more. How much is the new president of FTX being paid? He's just looking for assets; that's a lot easier than staying out of jail for 15 years. Mr. Bankman hasn't been charged, yet. Mrs. Fried hasn't been charged, yet.

Ask Elizabeth Holmes what it's like to wait for the indictment to come- stressful, I'll bet. But we know lawyers are a special breed, immune from most worry, insensitive to criticism, focused on the law. Good luck to the Bankman-Fried family. Poor brother Gabriel; he might just have to change his name or drop one and the hyphen too. Just plain old Fried would probably be Ok with Mom and Dad.

     See you all in court.

Send Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Prisoners

So, the Kremlin needs troops for the "Special Operation" in Ukraine where Russyan soldiers are getting killed at a record clip. Empty the prisons(Brittney Griner is already back in USA) say the generals in the Kremlin. So, Mad Vlad does just that. He orders new recruits to come from the penal colonies' population of thieves, murderers, rapists, homosexual deviates, sodomites, transgender freaks, and other assorted misfitssent away to purify the population. A typical Russyan solution to all social problems.

Now we have real "cannon fodder".

Bahkmut

This city in eastern Ukraine has become the latest focus of Russyan defensive maneuvers. The Russyan conscripts are told to dig in and hold their difficult positions. The Ukrainian army is fast encircling the remaining soldiers as they prepare a final assault on the city. The city of Bahkmut has now been reduced to rubble as artillery from both sides pounds every area. Ahhhh. The Kremlin. What a thoughtful brigade of murderers. Russyan soldiers are really not much more than robots: ordered into battle without controls excepting fear. Why does Mad Vlad persist? Because he's a Russyan and that's what Russyans do.

Yesterday, Ukrainian forces shelled a barracks building near Bahkmut that housed many Russyan conscripts, housed here because of the winter cold. The rockets found their mark and reduced the building to rubble, killing almost all the occupants. Many Russyan mothers will have a sad Christmas in 2022. Thank you, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. A fine mess you've got the country in. Oh, and don't tell us, again, that it's the fault of "The West". We know better.

Oh, and now we have even more blood on our hands: our mercenary troops, aka Wagner Group, are being sent in to help the conscripts. Oh, great: just what we need-former prisoners and conscripts relying on paid scum to lead them out of this mess. A fine fix. Does anybody read history? This will  not end well for the Steppe peoples.

SBF Arrested in Bahamas

Mr. and Mrs. Bankman-Fried traveled to the Bahamas to visit their little boy, Sammy. The two legal scholars from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, will try to bolster the spirit of the headlines-grabbing progeny known to the world as SBF. He was indicted today on 8 counts of securities fraud related to his crypto currency companies he founded just a few years ago at age 25. He's now 30.

He made quite a splash as the new face of crypto-tokens and feathery monetary units started by those irrepressible twins-the Winklevoss brothers. They touted this block chain idea as the "new" method needed to break the hold of government control  and Wall St. management of monetary units. Soon, individuals alone, with the help of city-sized computer networks, would be masters of their own financial fortunes, sans taxes, etc. Hmmmm. No doubt, this raised the ire of a few legislatures.

Rep. Maxine Waters knows a thing or two about financial dealings. She's the chairman of the House finance committee holding hearings today. SBF was scheduled to appear in front of the committee and answer a few questions. That won't happen today. He's in jail in Nassau. Now about Mom and Dad. May they be next to get put in the slammer? That is unclear at this time. What did they know and when did they know it? How much advice did they give their son as he built his house of cards? Might they be seen as co-conspirators? One would think that SBF was often on the phone with them to seek direction ass to the legality of his business moves. And what about the $70 millions in donations to Democrats? Hmmm. Might the DNC now have to kick back those donations to the lawyer now managing FTX? Mr. Ray, what is your view of the ownership of the $70 millions? If I were an investor holding an empty bag, I would want some of that donated cash that really belonged to me, not SBF.

Bernie Madoff is dead; is long suffering wife, Ruth, is dead. And one of his sad sons is dead. Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos fame, is preparing to enter prison for her 11 years for: LYING. Her partner in crime, Mr. Balwami, he's also preparing to enter prison for 14 years for LYING. No doubt, the curly-haired son of the STANFORD professors is also preparing for his time in prison. He's thinking: I'm 30 years old; trial will last months, the appeals will take months; I'll be convicted and sentenced sometime in early 2024. Maybe I'll get 18-20 years in federal minimum security prison. I'll be about 46-47 when I get sprung. I can start again! I'll continue to study while in prison. I 'll figure out a better scheme next time. Or not.

Putin Fetes a Castro

That's right: Mad Vlad held a celebration in Moskova to divert attention from his Ukrainian gambit down south. He made statements regarding the enviable record of the Cuban rebel's takeover of the Caribbean island off the coast of Florida. Vlad marked the unveiling of a statue of Fidel with his usual vapid speeches of a man he's revered since grammar school. The murderous Fidel and his henchman, Che Guavera, and younger brother Raul, enslaved a population with odious laws that stifled all democratic ideals that were used in the beginning of the "revolution". How did it work out for Cuba? Not so good.

And Mad Vlad thinks the world has forgotten; but the world can't forget of the murderous tactics employed by the Castro government to enslave the people of Cuba and continue this regime that deprives all people of all rights and independence.

Carry on Vlad, the world is watching and waiting. Think momentarily of your children and their legacy, which is your legacy, too. Sad. Two human beings cursed forever by your antics as dictator of Siberia.

Sergei Vas Silly Lavrov Explains

Explains? No, lies about Putin's war. He says civilian infrastucture is a legitimate target( power plants, railroads, schools, hospitals, emergency services, etc.) Hmmmm. Special Operations have legitimate targets? Poor Vasily Lapdog. He'll have his day in the I.C.C. after this debacle. The old lap dog of Mad Vlad is just another puppet whose strings are jerked by the Kremlin; whose dog and pony show is fodder for the Russyan masses across the Steppes and the Siberian tundra, including the Ural Mountains and the Pacific Coast wastes so coveted by China. But, I digress. The old fat ass just steps to the podium and spews his trite message(s) to a disbelieving corps of head-shaking media types who attend because they are paid to attend these lectures by a criminal mouthpiece of Russya. The I.C.C. is taking notes, Sergei. You will have to answer rto these lies which spread fear among the Ukrainian populace. You knoe: the populace that quakes in fear as the Russyan missiles dive into their lives since February 24, 2022. Yes, it's been awhile since the Kremlin sent the untrained, untried boys south to invade a sovereign country without provocation. Recall, Sergei, that President Biden told the world weeks before  the invasion that Putin had already given the go ahead for the action. Putin then denied this, only to carry out the whole "blitzkrieg"/lightening war against Ukraine. And then, the Ukrainian army hit the field and stopped the paper army in its tracks, forcing a retreat which continues to this day.

If the infrastructure of Ukraine is a legitimate target, then it follows that the same targets inRussya are also legitimate. I think that's deductive reasoning, or geometric reasoning, or logical thinking, or something else. Anyway, as soon as the Ukraine military acquires long range missiles, the Moskova infrastructure will be hit repeatedly by these arms. Watch what happens in Moskova then.

Simultaneously, in Vilnius, Lithuania, followers of Alexei Navalny, currently housed at a Siberian Penal Colony, are discussing Ukrainian topics on a You Tube channel dedicated to opposing Mad Vlad and his perverts in Moskova. The channel interviews those Russyan liberals who fled Russya to bring their opposing messages to the world after the dictator in the Kremlin started rounding up all dissidents they could find. Check it out; find out what the "message" is from the handful off opponents from Russya really think of their mother country. Think opportunists.

SBF: I Didn't know

So, FTX investors got a message from their arch enemy: Sam Blankman-Fried. To wit: "I didn't know the company was using investor funds to pay loans we used to buy other companies." No doubt he "knows" he can say anything he wants before an audience of dupes because he's not under oath and doesn't have to answer questions from a prosecutor. That day will come soon enough as the 30-year old dirt bag/scum bucket realizes the game is over and he has become another modern pariah. Still appearing as the douche bag of Wall Street in his floppy black T and cut off cargo pants with a mop head of hair cascading over his floppy ears, he continues to feed the narrative that his "business" has suffered some setbacks and will take some time to recover. Hmmmmm.  I'll bet Bernie Madoff thought the same thing for awhile. And Jeffrey Epstein thought something similar, and Jon Corzine thought the identical thoughts. The patterns of the thoughtless, clueless Ponzi-schemers. The game will go on forever, until it doesn't. The media has been having a wonderful time with SBF; it allows the pundits to kick sand in the face of Wall Street bigwigs and their lawyers who facilitate all these scams that sprout annually from the cavernous streets of Manhattan. Creative writers enjoy taking copious notes about all the mechinations of financiers as fodder for future stories of greed, pain, despair, and the aftermath.

The Mayor hasn't listened to any of SBF's sales pitches but no doubt his message was like so many others:"You can't lose; results are guaranteed. Get in now, at the start to realize all your dreams of wealth". So the game continues. The bankruptcy administering the company is now finding(or not finding) where the money went of the million investors who gave SBF their hard-earned cash. The dirt bag suggested that his company was hacked(the new fallback/go-to excuse of the scoundrel brigades). But the Mayor likes the more simple line:"I didn't know".  He'll soon have his day in court before he joins a few other scoundrels behind bars in Sing-Sing or maybe Guantanamo, Cuba.

Jimmy Lai:Soon to be on Trial in Hong Kong

Where's Jimmy Lai?  Let's see: he's been arrested and held in prison now for months. Beijing announced that his trial in Hong Kong will begin today. He will answer charges of seditious activity. Hmmm. Sounds like a scripted charge put up by the Communist government in Beijing which took over Hong Kong in violation of the treaty signed with the U.K. 25 years ago. Everybody knew that was a sham ans Xi JP proved it as such. Old Xi is having a moment now as protests continue across China over Covid restrictions. When will it end? Nobody knows, but Beijing has begun relaxing strict control over movement around the country. People were forced to stay home because of Covid controls. Folks could not work; could not shop; could not leave their homes and apartments. Schools were closed, businesses shut down, and transportation halted. All to facilitate control of a virus that defies control: it's in the air!!!

Commies being commies, they shout into the wind: "We know better", "We're Communists". Long live Communism. How sad, really. They probably don't know history.

More Protests Rock Large Chinese Cities

In the largest street protests in over 32 years, Chinese of all demographics have hit the streets in protests against Beijings harsh pandemic position on curtailing the spread of the Covid 19 virus. Lockdowns and isolation have been the Communists' go to position. Citizens cannot leave their homes, cannot go to work, sick or not. The Unemployment rate for young workers has soared above 20%. Beijing refuses to alter course in the face of these mass protests. Not since Tianeman square protests in 1989 have there been such anti-government protests. Dictators never learn. Nor oligarchs or despots. People want to be free. It's universal. despite arrests, jailings, beatings, camera recordings, the protests continue in large cities and small. How will this play out? Nobody knows at this point.

Pulisic Puts Team USA into Round of 16

Facing elimination in Game 3 of the Group play in Qatar, the Boys from USA out hustled the Iranian side, scoring once, and then defending that goal for the rest of the contest.  Christian Pulisic took a pass in front of the goal mouth from his teammate, and sent the ball home then crashing into the goal keeper who came out a few steps to defend. He was banged up and stayed on the ground for several miutes. He then walked off but was not taken out. His team responded with 9 field players while Pulisic recovered on the sidelines. After a few minutes, hr returned to the field after checking with the center ref. After the contest, he reassured his many fans that he'll be ready to play Saturday against the Orangemen from the Netherlands. After playing England to adraw, I'm sure the team will be more than optimisticabout their chances against this top European side.

      Watch the game Saturday morning.

Jury Convicts Stewart Rhodes, Leader of Oath Keepers

Lawyer and far right leader of the extremist group known as Oath Keepers,Stewart Rhodes, a Yale-educated lawyer, was convicted of sedition by a jury after a trial during which he took the stand on his own defense but could not convince the members of the jury that he was only waiting for Pres. trumpto ask for help from his group's members. Hmmmmmm. Well, Stewart and compatriot, Kelley Meggs, will be able to contemplate their lives while spending 20 years+/- in prison. federal prison, at that. The DOJ put considerable resources into its investigation because it will have serious implications for the Rum Pot in Mar-A-Lago, Florida, former tweeter-in-chief.

Good old Stewart, smart enough to spend several years studying law books in Yale law school, but not smart enough to put his education to useful, productive endeavors. Too bad for you, Dirt Bag. Have fun in the exercise yard at Leavenworth.

Xi JP: He Leaves the Mask on but Gloves Off

My, my, my: trouble along the Yangtze River in Asia, also known as China. The Covid virus is running amok among the Chinese population, especially those most vulnerable-the elderly among the population. In addition, the Beijing autocrats insist that the current protocols continue: severe lockdowns, mandatory isolation, business closures, and surveillance of everybody everywhere. Sounds like a Communist plot. Oh, wait: it is a Communist plot. The Chinese are Communists(at least those robots in Beijing)! So, Xi has given the word to national police: continue on, don't let the rebels make any progress. Rules are rules; they must follow all rules. I have spoken. I am Xi JP, leader of Asia, China, the Chinese people and anybody and everybody else. Don't forget. It's all about "The Party".

Recently, the USA has tightened the thumb screws on Chinese tech companies, forcing them to cut back on all expansion plans across the world. Huawei, already under sanctions, will be hit with even more sanctions as the USA instructs worldwide businesses who want to do business with US companies, must adhere to new rules about doing business with Chinese companies in the tech sector. This will further the goals of US sanctions to restrict inroads made by China in its quest to become the new world leader, an obvious challenge to the USA.

More Sanctions Coming for Russya

A 9th set of sanctions are being discussed this weekend in Europe. Poland and the Baltic States(Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia) are discussing another round of trade restrictions that will add more trouble for those in Russya who want to do business internally while cut off from international partners, suppliers, and customers. The slow squeeze continues to strangle domestic production, domestic operations, and severely limits all Russyan exports. As Putin's costly war against Ukraine moves into its first winter of operations, citizens in Russya will experience growing difficulties with basic needs. Additionally, travel restrictions will hinder movement of citizens out of Russya no matter where they want to hide.

Down south, near the center of combat operations of the feeble Russyan army conscripts, many have been trying the malingerers' approach to getting shipped home: get a doctor to assign an injury/illness to you and go home for extended care. This is one of the oldest methods used by all armies all the time forever. Everybody has heard the story of soldiers who use their weapons to shoot a foot and claim combat wounds. various knives and cutting instruments also work wonders. "Igor, pass me your bayonet. I need to open a can of borscht for dinner."  Whoopsy, I slipped and cut off my finger(s). "Ivan, is this rifle loaded. Boom. Oh, my foot is bleeding. Call a medic." And so it goes in Ukraine as more and more Russyan soldiers acknowledge the futility of all their efforts in Ukraine. And at such great cost as friends and brothers are slaughtered like so many cattle. For what? For Putin's glory? For "Mother Russya? Please. I just want to go home. I like Ukrainians, anyway.

So, look and listen for an announcement tomorrow: new sanctions against the invaders.

Canada v. Croatia

Our northern cousins, those formerly English, have demonstrated a high level of skills on the soccer pitch. Simultaneously,  Croatia has elevated its game to an equally high level since the partition of the former Yugoslavia. In the first half of today's World Cup contest, Canada got a jump start in the 2nd minute with a goal that rocked the Croats. But, the East Europeans were not daunted by this rapid fire goal. Over the next 43 minutes, the Red & White checkers dominated the pitch, out running the Maple Leafs, beating to the ball again and again. In the 32nd minute, the Croats put one in the back of the net, after having an earlier shot called back for offsides. Then, with the sides' aggressive onslaught, the Croats scored another goal in the 44th minute, making it a 2-1 tally as halftime was whistled by the referee.

Advantage: Croatia

In the earlier game, favorite Belgium was defeated by Morocco. Hmmm. What's going on with European teams?

Next game: Germany v. Ronaldo & Co.

Messi On His game

Lionel, aka La Pulga, brought joy to the world today as he sent home a shot on goal that demonstrated his great skills. The goalie for Mexico never got a finger on the ball as it soared into the net from 40'. The Blue and White striped jersey reacted appropriately surrounding a jubilant Messi. This goal was followed by another Argentine goal to make the score 2-nil. It would not change. All teams in the group still have hope: Poland on top, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Argentina all have another game left in group play. Wednesday will see two teams advance to the knockout round.

Very serious these two: La Pulga and Ronaldo

England v. USA: A Draw

This match up was touted by the media as 'the' game to watch. Both sides had high expectations. The English wanted to make a statement that they were worthy of serious consideration: ready for long-sought recognition after falling short so many times in the recent past. The USA side sought recognition as the 'new' worthy opponent for top teams. Youth is their watchword, with the 3rd youngest team at the World Cup this year. Both teams have a leader: harry Kane, captain of England, and Christian Pulisic, the leading international scorer for team USA.

And then they started the 90 minute contest: ready to make that statement. Back and forth, each side pressing for advantage. However, all their efforts failed to produce a goal. Yes, each had opportunities that did not yield results. England had possession honors, and the USA performed better than most expected. Now the USA must win its next/last game against Iran to move on the the Round of 16. England will move on no matter.

Saturday's schedule is up and there will be some very good contests among some top teams. Watch them.  Mexico v. Argentina, and France v. Denmark.

Favorites Shine in Qatar

Portugal held off a persistent and determined Ghanian side, going 1-nil in the first half on Pk by Ronaldo, becoming the first player in World Cup history to score a goal in 5 World Cup tournaments. In the 2nd half, fireworks demonstrated the aggressive play of both sides. Ghana scored the equalizer to make it 1-1, giving them some cheer. And then, Portugal sent two shots home to go ahead 3-1. In the 89th minute, Ghana put another ball into the net, making it 3-2, Portugal. By this time, Ronaldo had been substituted out, along with teammate Joao Felix. Extended time amounted to 9 minutes, giving Ghana renewed hope to score another equalizer. It almost happened: as the Porto goalie handled a ball and prepared to roll it forward to a teammate, he missed the Ghanian forward lurking behind him. The Ghanian was able to deflect the throw to a compatriot who almost, but not quite, got a foot on the ball less than 12' from the mouth. In what could have been a major faux pas, the Porto goal keeper was able to prevent the score.

Final Ghana 2, Portugal 3

In the next contest, Brasile faced another European side that has shown increased skill over the last few years. It was a scoreless tie at the half, but in the 2nd half, Brazil was able to demonstrate not only high skills, but also a flare for art and drama as 1 player put on a show, scoring consecutive goals, one of which was a fan favorite: an over-the-head bicycle kick that eluded any goalie attempt at a block. Game over, 2-nil Brazil over Serbia.

Tomorrow:

USA vs. England

Don't miss Harry Kane match up with Christian Pulisic. Harry has a bad ankle and could be on the sideline at the start. Me, I would save him for knockout play.

Spain: Pace Setter

Spain was not going to stumble. They didn't as they waltzed over a struggling Costa Rican side. The Spaniards played a technically astute game, dealing lesson after lesson to a, Central American side that provided little defense when needed. Spain dealt them a loss by the widest margin: 7-0. Spain will be hard-pressed to duplicate such an effort anytime soon.

And Now: Germany: Humbled

The Germans: respected by all Europeans for their soccer football prowess. Expectations were running high when they stepped onto the pitch to match up with the Japanese. Here they would demonstrate to the world they came to play. Shocker: they lost, 2-1. What in the world? First Argentina, now Germany humiliated before the world. How does this happen? Hmmm. Well, maybe the world is catching up. Perhaps information shared is information learned across the globe. The algorithyms perform better than ever and can "teach" opponents how to defend against a myriad of attacks. The coach must be scratching his head. He must answer his many critics. And what can he say? Hmmmm. Not easy, but that's what he gets paid for: answers.

California: Running a Deficit: Again

So, a state that depends on high earners for 40% of its income tax stream, looks to have run up against some reality: budget directors are projecting a $41-75 million dollar deficit. Hmmm. Is Gov. Newsom concerned? Of course not: he's works in a one party state controlled by: you guessed it: Democrats.

Ann Applebaum Calls Out Russyans in Exile

Well, it's been awhile since Mad Vlad's minions invaded Ukraine(first time in 2014), about 9 months so far this time. However, the green conscripts sent south to do the dirty work for the Kremlin sycophants seem to have faltered in their efforts. They have abandoned the port city of Kherson, a ket component of Russya's efforts near the Black Sea and its criminal possession-Crimea, part of Ukraine. The troops of the Kremlin have retreated east across a major strategic obstacle-the Dnipro River.  The river is rather large: 12-15 miles across in some spots. Very few bridges are left standing that cross this wide obstacle. Currently, Ukrainian recon forces are crossing at night to lay mines for Russyan logistics troops who are charged with supporting their Siberian brothers(as opposed to their St. Petersburg brothers who fled the draft and are hiding in plain sight in various Baltic countries, a few-"stans" and wherever else they could flee before the Kremlin operatives caught up with them.

Ol' Mad Vlad  must be rattling around Red Square(in his fur coat and fur hat and fur boots) trying to grasp the situation that seems to be spinning out of control.  Let's see: I've agreed to allow Ukrainian grain shipments continue; I've bombed and shelled most energy production centers throughout Ukraine; I've shelled the capitol city of Kviv; I've continued the delivery of some gas and some oil to Europe; yes, I blew up the Nordstream 1 pipeline just to keep them honest(ho,ha); I've shipped many residents of the Donbass to secure sites in Russya so they won't fall for Western propaganda ploys; I've recruited another 150,000 young Siberian fighters(I know they're green, but they'll be veterans in a few weeks); my Buddy Xi JP has thoughtfully stayed on the sidelines without falling victim to that pathetic Joe Biden the Democrat; stupid Trump hasn't helped either, which is a good thing; and my countrymen continue to support me, more or less but who's counting?

Ms. Applebaum, a staff writer for the Atlantic magazine wrote in the current issue that Putin must not win, and that opposition continues at home and abroad among dissident voices. True, in her opinion, most of the Russyan citizens who have fled left to avoid being drafted into the army ranks. She states unequivocally that these same Russyans are on the sidelines, waiting for the war/special operation to conclude soon. Meanwhile, despite individual claims, they are lying low, not wishing to draw attention while guests in a host nation. Time is on their side as long as the conflict continues. They will not have to choose repatriation or asylum fow awhile yet. Then the fun begins. Stay tuned.

FIFA, QATAR, and the World Cup

So, here's the latest iteration of a world contest: a bunch of Arabs roped the FIFA oligarchs into approving their bid 12+ years ago to host the tournament. Never mind that the country is smaller than Rhode Island, doesn't/didn't have enough stadium venues to host an egg roll contest, or even have a team that could be called a contender on any stage. But, Gianni Infantino, lead operative for FIFA oligarchy, decided he could support the venue. Well, how much was promised to the FIFA peeps? Nobody has that answer; probablyright there with how crypto coins are counted. Nonetheless, the first games were played this week and one surprise: Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia. Hmmmm. Lionel: you has some 'splainin' to do.

The USA with a young team but not without experience was matched up with a UK team(don't call it that): Wales. A small proud country of Welshmen. They held the USA to a 1-1 tie. Hmmm. Could it be the USA won't make it out of group play? One can ask that of Argentina, a pre-tournament hopeful, certainly. Lionel has never won a World Cup for Argentina. He's won about everything else. So, The french, defeating an Australian side today, looks very could for a defending champion. Not easy to repeat; hasn't been done in 70+ years.

So, keep watching, make up a story of your own about why Qatar is the host. Nobody can say you're wrong, no matter how wild you make it. Keep smilin'.

Old News: The Houston Astros win the World Series

Well, the Mayor was on the road and missed the final game. But the outcome speaks for itself: the Phillies were bested by a better team!. So, Dusty Baker will now have his "ring"- that coveted prize that goes to the victors of a world championship.  He's been managing at the highest level for 25 years and he's lost more than a few Series. But now, he can hold his head up with the best(Bruce Bochy) and a few other managers. Perhaps his team will repeat, but that is always up in the air.

Astors win 4 0f 6 games to send the Phillies home without a 3rd victory. Bravo Dusty Baker.

Brazilians Enjoy the Moment(Maybe)

The presidential election in Brazil isover. Lula DaSilva is elected president, again. The former chief executive has rebounded from oblivion to the top of elected politics in his native Brazil. After spending 2 years in prison, he was back in action and on the campaign trail as his many followers convinced him that the country needed someone who could defeat the sitting, right-wing president, Bolsonaro. He has been defeated. Lula will taken over January 1, 2023.

Viva Lula

The 49ers McCaffery Enjoys Historic Moment

The record keepers had a moment yesterday after the 49er win. Not many times in football history was such a game recorded. One player for the 49ers, K. McCaffery, ran for a touchdown; caught a pass for another; and best of all-he threw a pass that was caught for another touchdown! Jimmy G. had a good day himself. The Rams didn't bring their "A" Game, and didn't look so good. Oh, well, on a given day.......

Go '9ers!

World Series: Game 3

So, the competition moves to Philadelphia today for the next 3 games. The Series is tied: 1-1. Always nice for the traveling team(Phillies) to win one game on the road. They can win it all if they win the next 3. The Astros need 1 win to return to Houston for the decider. Houston's pitchers will focus on winning one out of three to make it happen. Dusty Baker will sit back and manage in his low key, but serious style, not thinking what the final outcome will mean to him.

Whereas there is much sympathy in the Phillies quest for a championship, I think the empathy of the moment goes to Dusty. He is deserving, after his lengthy career on the field and in the dugout gives him ample credibility. Go Dusty. ( yes, the Mayor recalls Dusty as a player with the hated Dodgers, but is willing to let bygones be bygones).

Need any Cereal?

Russya's Putin announced they will not provide assistance with the shipments of grains from the port on the Black Sea after a drone hit a Russyan Navy minesweeper there, causing extensive damage. Vlodomir Zelensky, president of Ukraine stated that it was not fired by his army forces. Putin's spokesman said otherwise. Now both sides claim the other will cause food shortages in Africa and other 3rd world countries on the brink of starvation. Hmmm Makes one wonder.

Phillies Top Astros in 10

Well, it started out fine for 3 innings when Houston scored 5 runs, for a nice lead in Game 1 of the 2022 World Series. But that lead would not stand. A few innings later, the Phillies made a comeback, defying the incredible odds of overcoming such a deficit(1 in a 100).  Then it was all tied up 5-5. And it appeared that the Astros were having problems at the plate. Then, one of the boys from Philly launched one and it reached the seats just inches from the out stretched glove of the center fielder, score 6-5 Phillies. In the bottom of the 10th, it appeared that Lady Luck would alter her favors and but for an amazing catch, the 'Stros went down to defeat, 6-5, leaving 2 men stranded in scoring position.

    Next time.

Putin Critic Flees Russya

Ksenia Sobchak, a 40 year old Russyan citizen has disappeared from her home in Moskva. She is the daughter of Anatoly Sobchak, former mayor of St. Petersburg, and was the political mentor of V. Putin when Mad Vlad was a Lt. Col. in the KGB stationed there. Ms. Sobchak has long played a fine line between support of the Kremlin and Putin and support of critics and the opposition. This past week, her apartment was entered by state police and searched, perhaps looking to arrest her. Her chief of staff was arrested and taken away. She has made a career in broadcasting and was a popular figure among media types. Information as to her whereabouts is limited: she passed the border yesterday into Lithuania, using her Israeli passport. Her plans are unknown, but it is assumed she was advised by Kremlin insiders to leave the country as soon as possible. Apparently, Mr. Putin is under intense pressure from business owners and academics due to the draining of leaders from their ranks as Russya's position in Ukraine becomes more precarious as  time goes by.

Good luck, Ksenia, wherever you are.😱😱😱😱😱🙈🙉🙊

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken Must be asleep

What has happened in China with US diplomats is a disgrace. How this Was allowed is unprecedented in State Dept. history. Families subjected to isolation; filthy confinements, rotten food; fake medical test results, and all with knowledge by Foggy Bottom. Newly assigned personnel were not told what awaited them when they arrived at their assigned posts. They were not allowed even to protest their treatment.  It was up to "whistle blowers"-insiders who went through various media outlets to inform the public about the failings of management at the highest levels. All was detailed in an op/ed in the Wall Street Journal, a conservative newspaper that caters to Republicans and Wall Streeters.  Anthony, are you listening? Get with it; time to give Beijing the treatment. Remember when we closed the Chinese consulate in Houston? Beijing then retaliated by closing the American Consulate in Chungdu. Results: 6000 would be visa applicants had to go to Shanghai to apply. Good luck. You'll be waiting 5-7 years for that interview. Tough.

Elon Musk Invades San Francisco

In another sign that the City by the Bay, home of the Golden State Warriors, the 49ers, the SF Giants, and cable cars, Elon Musk has arrived with the kitchen sink in hand. He bought Twitter, the media outlet preferred by perverts and pedophiles.  $44 billion dollars he paid for the web address and its numerous users, the most infamous was past president, Trump, who was shut out by management when he continued to promote misinformation, eg. he won the 2020 election, not Joe Biden.

So, Elon immediately had the existing management team summarily fired and escorted directly out of the building at market St. and 8th. He will fire additional thousands and create a vacuum in the central part of San Francisco's storied thoroughfare.  Small businesses thought the pandemic was bad. Just wait. Elon will prove to be worse. He wants to be a disrupter; instead, he's just another punk.

Mad Vlad Orates

The Kremlin Monster now says he would not use nuclear weapons. How pathetic! After mentioning same on numerous occasions  since Russya invaded Ukraine, he now back pedals. Why? Because those Russyans who can are fleeing the country by the thousands. Who wants to live in a country run by mad men? Answer: No One.  Intellectuals, scientists, academics, engineers, truck drivers, cab drivers, doctors, lawyers, politicians, peasants, farmers, zoo keepers, fishermen, loggers, ice cream servers: all say "Nyet".

Bye ,bye, Mother Russya

FBI Arrests Two Chinese Nationals in US: Collecting Information on Huahuei Policies

Well, Beijing is at it again. Seeking more control over global technology. By sending operatives into targeted countries, Beijing hopes to conquer the leading position in technological industry. So, no situation is too small for consideration. Just this week Pres. Joe Biden put a stop to all US chips that end up in China, no matter the company selling the product. If the product contains US made chips, it cannot be sold or sent to China, Chinese affiliates, or foreign countries who market products to China. This effectively closes all China to American made chips. This will have a devastating effect on all Chinese tech production and reduce their capacity to compete around the world. Better late than never. So, Pres. Biden is starting to reverse what Obama started 8-10 years ago: opening a new era in Sino-American relations. Sorry: not happening Mr. Xi.

Mr. Xi just wrapped up the latest Communist Party 5 Year  Convention where he was appointed dictator for another 5 years. During the Party Congress, he made a big deal of hauling former Premier Xi Jintao out of the meeting hall. Poor old(79) Xi J T. He had no idea what was happening; he resisted the eviction but the party thugs were too much for this slight old man. Ahh, Communists. Heartless forever. All party opponents must be dealt with harshly, no matter their former position.

New Xi J P has a faltering economy to cope with now. The real estate economy has gone bust; the tech industry has been rocked; and Hong Kong is showing signs of cracking up. Lay Covid lock downs over everything, and you can imagine what's ahead:chaos. Please, don't mention Taiwan; don't mention Tibet; don't mention Ai Weiwei; don't mention Xinjiang; don't mention Muslims; don't mention coal; don't mention strong dollar; don't mention birth rate; don't mention climate change; and don't mention Russya.

Beijing Called Out for Harassment of US Diplomats

Well, now, it's about time the public was made aware of recent illegal moves by Beijing to harass official US diplomats while posted to China.

Vote, Vote, Vote

We Californians got our mail-in ballots over a week ago, making voting easier than ever. So, one way or the other, get out and exercise your right. Don't wait, then complain about the results. It's your civic duty: act now.

Winter Begins in the Western States

Residents of Jackson, Wyoming will get some snow this week, announcing the end of Fall with the yellow Aspens, and the beginning of their winter, with its howling winds, serious snow storms, and icy roads, snow tires w/ studs, and roaring wood fires in the stove/fireplace/ pellet machine. The snow clothes will be shaken awake, the skis/snow boards/snow shoes will be examined for function and form, and the November election will come and go. And Covid will remain in the Rocky Mountain closet, again. The FDA and the White House are asking Congress for more money to finance the next rollout of vaccinations for the winter season when the flu will piggyback upon the Covid virus to shake the population again through the dark months ahead.

But, the long winter of Covid appears to have slipped from the consciousness of the citizenry; it is accepted as endemic, and health officials are in a quandary about solutions to a still-deadly health emergency that continues to kill 350+ folks per day. In Lake Tahoe area, skis will appear before Thanksgiving if a little white stuff falls and temps stay below freezing for a few days. Maybe we'll have winter this year.

And the World Series begin Friday, next.

Go, Rishi, Go: Chant for UK"s New PM

Rishi Sunak has climbed to the top of the British mountain. He now reigns supreme over the venerable country with the former global reach. Now the reach at best is regional. However, the 800 millions millionaire seems to think that the decline can be turned around with proper management and steely-eyed decision making.(meaning unpopular). The wealthy young man is highly educated(Oxford & Stanford), very experienced in high finance(Goldman Sachs), well grounded(married to a fellow cultural companion), handsome and healthy. While his predecessor, Liz Truss, shared many of the same attributes, she failed in execution during her brief tenure at 10 Downing St. How could she have thought a tax cut for the wealthy would fly during a time of serious inflation coupled with serious energy shortages that affect all citizens, rich and poor? Hmmmmmm. Couldn't read the tea leaves? Bad juju?

So, being touted as the first PM of color, and the first Hindu, and one of the youngest, Rishi will have to make sure he can navigate stormy economic times as the UK copes with the Brexit debacle, the war in Ukraine, record inflation, and a political party unable to lead and solve any pressing problems. The Conservatives have proved inept, and the Labor Party offers no serious solutions other than providing a larger social safety net. And King Charles lacks the vigor to provide the royal support that has in the past aided various PMs when the storms descend across the continent.

Best wishes, Rishi.

As readers know, the Mayor traversed the UK, north, south, east, and west in August and September. The weather was extraordinary affording a comfortable close-up wherever our travels carried us. While the locals were cordial and upbeat, there did seem to be an underlying bit of anxiety, whether from Brexit, the death of Queen Elizabeth II, or the bumpy ride with the buffoon Boris, now gone. As the UK slips to 2nd tier status on the international scale, the City of London, the financial brain of Europe, continues to exert significant influence. Time will tell.

We Are Orphans But Not Russyans

The Ukrainians have suffered under the Russyan army's invasion. It is perfectly clear: the repeated violations against a population have been exposed to the world. Vladimir Putin is a war criminal with a well-earned reputation. That reputation has now been enhanced once again. As the Russyan army buckles in retreat, the Kremlin's agents have added a new tactic in 2022: take the locals prisoner and bring them with the retreat to bolster the declining population of Mother Russya. Yes, this "new" tactic is really the main tactic of the war: we need citizens; so, we will capture a reluctant, helpless people and call them "Russyan". Case closed. We will now defend them as citizens of the Steppes/Siberia. Catch us if you can.

They've gone to orphanages, homeless shelters, refugee centers, anywhere they could find helpless, defenseless people who could be caught up in a dragnet of a  reeling military force in retreat. Women and children appear to be the most included in the numbers; reporters have interviewed victims who report being taken away without questioning them as to permissions, or destinations, or future. This is beyond criminal; this is genocide. The Russyan chief of military departments, Gen. Gerasimov, will have to stand trial in the near future. He will be sent to the Gulag to pay for his crimes against Ukrainian humanity. And it will be well deserved. The Old Dirtbag is nothing more than a thug in uniform working for the other thug, Putin. Sad, how a population, Russyan, is ruled by thugs. But, it's Russya, Land of Thugs.

That Russya's population is declining is a well known fact. The birthrate is one of the lowest in the world, hovering near 1.5%. This foretells an aging, stagnant people whose future is not bright, but grim. No more workers, no more students, no more leaders, no more country. It's happened before and continues(see Japan). Men and women in Russya choose not to multiply: who wants to raise a family in Russya? Not many is the obvious answer. Can they turn things around? Not as long as vodka sales are at record levels. Good luck, Ivan; and good luck Svetlana.

World Series 2022: Houston v. Philadelphia

And so, Dusty Baker has another chance to reach the summit. His Astros defeated the New York Yankees, 4 games to Zip. Aaron Judge struck out on his last at bat in the bottom of the 9th, symbolizing a final statement from the Astros' closer: "It's over". On the National League side of the balance, the San Diego Padres entered the best-of-seven contest with high hopes, only having the dream shattered by a surging 9 team, whose roster included one Bryce Harper, the "Hope of Philly", who sent an 8th -inning pitch deep into the seats, sealing the fate of the Pads. The bearded slugger answered the call of the faithful, who prayed for relief from infamy and winter's gloom. Bolstered by tense situations, the highly paid Harper responded in kind, blasting home run after home run, speaking in his own prowess, telling the fans:"I've arrived; I'm here to carry the burden across the finish line after a season's toil".

The table is set; the guest list is complete, the menu published for all to savor. It's the World Series. Be there.

Astros 5, Yankees 0, 'Stros Up 3-Zip

Houston is now 6-0 in the post season. Pitching is the answer, as it always is. Hitting has had nothing but problems up and down the lineup(s). A team is better off with lots of pitchers than lots of hitters. Starters, mid-relievers, late-inning specialist, closer, lefty and righty. Batters are reeling from the mixture.

The shift will be banned next year; that will cause more hits to the right side, sure. Right fielders will have to play shallower, even with a left handed batter. Southpaw pitchers will face more difficult choices when the defense lacks the extra fielder on the right side of the diamond. More hits, better batting averages, more action on the bases; more baseball fans, better games to watch; better fan experience.

Case closed.

Can Dusty Baker Finally Win One?

That is the question on the mind of pundits across the fruited plain, of baseball. The Houston stros are up 2-zip on the Yankees, the scum of New York.

Oleg Klockov Dies in Kherson as Russyans Flee

Poor old Oleg: he was sent to Kherson to work on the TV channel established by the Kremlin to aid in  its disinformation campaign in Ukraine. He had barely unpacked his suitcase when out of the sky, a misplaced Russyan cruise missile shattered the building in which he worked, killing poor old Oleg. Such is life or the end of life with Russyans today. Mad Vlad, dictator for Life in the Kremlin, has punished his Russyan people like some of the old Commies of the past. I mean Stalins of the past, to include various Czars.

And most recently, he's been sending young, new conscripts, hauled off the side streets of Red Square, to the frontlines to plug the holes left by some of the veteran troops who are being sent elsewhere to plug those gaps as the Ukrainian offensive gathers momentum eastward. These troops, green as green can be, are cannon fodder. Untrained in the military arts, these innocents are martyrs, dying without recognition; alone without friends or family, discarded like so much old cabbage leaves. This represents the "NEW" Russya, a perverted image created in the brain of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

Lake Tahoe Views

Lake Tahoe from 30000'

The Mayor was on a flight recently to California during the day. By chance, my seat was on the left side of the aircraft and visibility and light conditions allowed this view out the window. As a passenger today, one has few options when on board-preassigned seats, schedule changes by corporate robots, and of course: the weather.

While I've flown over Lake Tahoe many times, this seems to have been a first. And there it is! I think I see Tahoma.

Putin Declares Martial Law in Eastern Ukraine

Desperate, desperate move by Mad Vlad. The poor schlub has talked himself into a corner, a corner with few, if any, options. So, now we will have to endure the scenes of murder in the streets of cities occupied by the Kremlin's mercenary troops, those shiftless Russyans who work for the Wagner Group, the palace guard, members of a private army run by one of Putin's henchman. This move underscores the deprivation of Putin and his ruthless attempts to revisit an imagined past that he somehow recalls as a better life than his present life.

He wants to live as he did: living a privileged existence only beholden to the few Communist scum who ran the entire country from a dacha outside of Moskava. Putin probably doesn't even realize how close he came to being sent to the Gulag Archipelago. He survived purges, landing upright on his two feet. With any slight deviation, he would have been sent away, probably forever. Now he's the man; all are beholden to him and his whims. King Croesus comes to mind. Or Tutankamen. Or Genghis Kahn, or one of his Communist successors.

So, martial law. The definition is quite broad, depending on who defines the activities of the enforcers. Number 1: curfew- all citizens will have to adhere to a schedule of daily activities, movements among the populace will be severely controlled from dusk to dawn. If discovered by police(army troops), one is subject to arrest or possibly shot on sight. Forget any normal life. Businesses and schools will be shuttered, professional offices closed to activities. The net result, a flood of refugees will flee; locals without options will seek a life elsewhere very quickly, and Putin will inherit a desert.

Sad for the Ukainians, sad for what was once a Russya with a future. Now the entire population of Russya(129 million) will be branded as inhumane puppets of a dictator, pawns to new czar, and skulking robot followers of a madman.

I am your leader:follow me

NBA SEason Begins

The Dubs, aka Warriors of San Francisco/Golden State, started the long road to 2023. They played their first game at home in the gorgeous venue Chase Stadium. The fans were treated to vintage Warriors: Performances by the starting 5 did not disappoint. Steph Curry played with grace, determination, verve, and high art/ballet. LeBron James displayed his remarkable talents again. The Lakers tried to make it a contest but the Dubs never let the game get out of hand. Looks to be a great season for Golden State and all their fans.

Now if only Draymond Greene can control his temper.

5 Year Communist Party Congress

The 5-Year Show is winding down in Beijing. 2500 delegates are getting a little tired of the hoopla surrounding dictator-for-life Xi Jin Ping. The architect of China's present and future has consolidated his hold on this country of 1.3 billion citizens. Despite the zero Covid policy, the population somehow continues to exist. With sudden and widespread lockdowns, large swaths of the country are ordered to stay home during outbreaks of the Covid virus. These fractious orders from Beijing's central command post, impose harsh conditions on everyone affected. People can't go to work, can't shop, and must depend on the government for their immediate survival. It's not pretty, and it appears the populace is starting to crack under the pressure. Just this past weekend a banner denouncing XiJP was hung over a freeway and showed up on social media, for a short while. It didn't take too long for the banner to be scrubbed from all outlets.

Additionally, China seems to rattle the West Pacific realm with intimations of a move against Taiwan, which, like the pseudo-Communist nut case in the Kremlin, lets the world know where China wants to be sometime soon. It won't be long before China starts to move against its neighbor to the north, the Russyan Bear. As the climate warms, more arable land appears ready for planting near and north of the Amur River valley in Russya's vast eastern Siberian provinces. Now already home to 5  million Chinese farmers, this area will eventually be claimed as ancestral Chinese property expropriated by some long-dead czar or Communist dictator. It will pass to China without much fuss.

As the 2500 delegates start packing their overnight bags, Xi JP will return to Tianamen  Square where his house-bound Yes-Men will offer sincere congratulations for a job well done. NYT pundit, Bret Stephens, wrote a letter to Xi in today's paper, thanking him for his role in making it obvious why the world still looks to the West for guidance, and the rest avoid any thought of teaming up with Communists or pseudo-Communists(Russyans).

More Commandos Sighted Hiding in Swamps

No doubt even the trained soldiers know a loser when they see one. And it's in Ukraine where the Big Loser is the Russyan Army, led by incompetents from top to bottom.

Yes, I'm From the Holy Trinity:Help us

Russyan Commandos Sighted in Ukraine Near Kerch Bridge

Yes, These secret commndos were sighted near the Dnipro River, no doubt to aid the crossing of Russyan soldiers(recruits) who needed immediate assistance since all bridges were bombed by the Russyan air force awhile back. As the worm has turned against the "Special Operation". All the Kremlin Sychophants are hiding from Mad Vlad, afraid they'll be singled out as responsible parties to the disasters befalling the incompetent armies in the field down south. Even the Kremlin's friends in Belarus are getting a little nervous as the EU sharpens its focus on those who support the invasion of a sovereign nation. The Little Idiot now claims that the provinces he overran in February of this year are now Russyan territories, 100%.

Send More Troops, Vlad, We Need Help Now

Vlad, It's Mom:Call Home
Uncle Vlad Call Me

Maybe these Russyan commandos will help the Russyan army evacuate the territory that the Ukrainian army is about to retake.  Hmmmmm. Keep firing your Iranian drones, Vladimir. It only illustrates how desperate you really are.

Viva Ukraine.

You're In the Army Now: Putin's Army, That Is.

So, the special operation being conducted in Ukraine by Putin's army is faltering on all fronts. His legions are reeling, falling back across the Dnipro R. in confused disarray. Casualties are significant, and the survivors are demoralized.  How to fix this? Kremlin advisors have suggested expanding the draft to add more soldiers to the gutted field army in Ukraine. Initially, recruitment was carried out in the traditional manner: appeals to Mother Russya; appeals to patriotism; appeals to history(The great Patriotic War). These efforts produced 2 or 3 conscripts/volunteers. Then, the shocking truth hit the Kremlin like a sledge hammer. The result: mass "gathering" of volunteers. Homeless shelters became targets for recruiters where residents were forcibly herded into waiting trucks. Prisons were emptied of offenders of minor crimes. And vodka drinkers were casually escorted to waiting trains for a trip to the training battalions. And then, these new-found "recruits were sent to--------the frontlines, some with guns, some not with guns. Welcome to the "New" Russyan army, led by old, fat, vodka swillers living in luxury in Moskava. Oh, Vladimir Vladimirovich: what have you done to Russya?

Most recently, you've stepped up your assault on Ukraine's infrastructure, in addition to its civilian population. Only yesterday, a 36 year old doctor was on her way to work in Kyiv when a missile destroyed her vehicle, killing her. An apartment house was struck by a drone, smashing a number of apartments. These drones really are model airplanes built by Iran and sold to the Russyan army for use in Ukraine. Much cheaper to use than advanced cruise missiles. These drones are easily thwarted with ground fire from armed infantry units.

And, as winter approaches, the Kremlin and Kyiv prepare their citizens for the long, cold months ahead. New sanctions will continue to pour onto the heads of Russyan citizens as they wrestle with abuse foisted upon them by Mad Vlad. The old Goat, aged 70, is suffering late -life anxieties and doubts, consoled somewhat by his young partner, the mother of his baby twins. It won't help; it never does. The end is nigh for Mad Vlad.

Alex Jones Takedown

So, Alex Jones, the carney shill from Austin, Texas, lost in court, again. (more loses to come!). The judge in the punitive damages trial awarded the plaintiffs almost a billion dollars, not an insignificant amount. The living, breathing scumbag, Mr. Jones, blew off the award with a challenge:"try to get it" message. He's scrambling to hide his millions behind shell companies and declarations of bankruptcies, but in the end, this home-grown mental case will pay up, no matter his bleak future. His backers, those deranged individuals who attach their fantasies to a pathetic personality, will go along with his slide into obscurity. They will have to find another Texan who can give voice to their perverted dreams and otherwise shallow lives.

An excellent recap of Jones' career was written in an NYT column, describing his rise as a "bloviating" red-faced liar. It started in 1995, awhile ago, really. But, as can happen, given the microphone of internet connections, he was able to fool the gullible, uneducated fringe that seems to have grown over the years in a society broken by political hacks for whom truth is not a factor in their work. Jones is more than a despicable human being; he's a terrorist, picking on the weak and down trodden among the public. We know these folks, decent persons, suffering from tragedies beyond their control. The weak legal structure offers little protection from these mongers of conspiracies that stretch belief by any measure. First Amendment rights are trumpeted as inviolable, and hence they pursue the goal of convincing a few sad cases that there could be some truth/facts among their many statements.

Will his career go down into history as yet another example of aberrant behavior? We hope so.

Putin Rains Missiles Down on Ukraine Civilians

My,my. Mad Vlad must be experiencing some indigestion. After commandos blew up his bridge across the Kerch Strait, Vlady talked with his yes-men and they advised sending a "strong" statement to Volodimir Zelensky in Kyiv. Results: 90+ cruise missiles were directed at targets across Ukraine, hitting a multitude of targets including civilian sites. However, 50+ missiles were intercepted, softening the impact of the barrage. International outrage was swift and broad-based. The Kremlin is now seen as struggling to accept the failed effort to bring Zelensky's government to its knees. The citizens are more resolute than ever, and the Ukrainian army continues to march forward sending the ragtag Russyan army reeling in disarray.

All of this makes clear that Putin erred. His desire for a successful annexation without local or international resistance has not happened. The isolated idiot will not have a successful birthday party number 70. His arteries are clogged with old borscht and bad vodka. His brain is showing signs of early onset dementia and Alzheimers. His food tasters are probably afraid to taste anything put in front of them. His domestic partner probably is looking for a way out. And his friends in Beijing aren't answering his email pleas for arms.

      And winter will begin soon.

Putin: The Answer MAN.

It's that time of the year folks: Czar Putin goes on the airwaves to talk at his people and answer their many questions to the best ...
