In an outpouring of response, residents in Tahoma, Homewood, and Rubicon Bay have responded to a request for comments about a plan to remake the Meeks Bay harbor located on Highway 89, on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. The department is seeking input from local residents regarding the future of Meeks Bay resort and boat harbor, closed now for over 3 years. The reasons for closing have been obscure, and responses from the USFS have been opaque at best. The lessee on site, the Washoe Indian Tribe of Nevada, has been a target of locals for its mismanagement of the resort that has left the resort in a poor condition.
Recently, the Truckee/Tahoe Sanitation District has added an extension of the bike path from Sugar Pine State Park north of the resort down to the entrance driveway of the Meeks Bay Resort. This multi-million dollar effort will expose the many deficits found in the tribe's efforts to operate a profitable, seasonal resort. Many residents who have responded to requests for comment and have highlighted the many deficiencies of the resort's management. One comment goes far back to the beginning of the government's purchase of the site in 1978 using taxpayer funds.
Lake Tahoe, California's Alpine playground, is anchored on the west shore by Homewood/Tahoma, straddling two counties:Placer and El Dorado. The mayor of Tahoma posts information related to the area and items of interest to residents and visitors alike. Its goal is to be informative, humorous, and timely. Hope you enjoy the site.
