California Governor Juggles Budget Numbers

Governor Gavin Gruesom has been working late these past few weeks trying to spin his budgets numbers which clearly are in the red. The deficit projected runs to $38+ billions. Hmmmm. The support base understands: drive away high earners with their high taxable incomes, and voila: deficits. So, what will Gavin do? Raise taxes? NO, no, no, no. Cut programs? Yes, yes, yes, yes. Get out the chainsaw. No. Get out the meat cleaver, no, again. Get out the scalpel: yes, make surgical cuts across the boards. Eliminate 3,200 unfilled state jobs. I like that: no workers can complain since they were never hired. Ha!

Then, pull support for programs that don't involve potential voters, especially if they lean Republican. Cut some agricultural subsidies: corporate farmers are not numerous, even if their campaign donations are. We can promise them big bucks after the election. The Bullet Train To NOwhere-slow down the project, but keep it despite predictions of disaster. Then give a few extra bucks to education at all levels: good for publicity. And now the budget is balance again.

Everybody happy?

Have a nice day.
