Amidst the turmoil in Ukraine, there are a couple of computer geeks who think it's Ok to mess with the internet. Must be bored or rich, or too smart, or too dumb. Mary Jo White, aka The Enforcer, filed indictments against 9 hackers and stock brokers who traded on inside information regarding mergers and acquisitions between publicly traded companies. Profits were estimated to be in the high tens of millions of dollars.
The hackers hacked company computers, gleaned vital information before public announcements were made, and sold the information to dishonest brokers who traded on that data. The hackers received a percentage of the ill gotten profits.
Two arrests have been made, and the Ukrainians are cowering in their hovels waiting for the rap on the door from the F.B.I. or F.S.B. or the MLB or the FIFA or whoever.
You gotta luv those hackers.
