How sad: hardly mid February and most resorts have called for seasonal shutdowns. This is devastating to our long term economic outlook on West Shore(Tahoma/Homewood). Can a family survive another year here? Many working families can no longer make it on two short seasons: there's not enough hours to cover living in the Sierra anymore. Some climatologists think that this is the beginning of a long term drought condition for all of California. If that is the case, big changes are coming to the Tahoe Valley and surrounding areas.
What's to become of the Homewood Village project? How could a builder justify the investment? He can't! Even those who can afford to live here and vacation here won't come here if there's no draw-no snow. This has been so sudden in climate terms that one can only hope that we are experiencing a bit of low average years for precipitation. The local water company is crying poor mouth because he can't sell enough well water to justify his expenses. What will happen to the lake itself? All the eggheads are scratching same, trying to explain the situation as we have seen it.
Winter is not officially over; there could be a few more storms.............
Lake Tahoe, California's Alpine playground, is anchored on the west shore by Homewood/Tahoma, straddling two counties:Placer and El Dorado. The mayor of Tahoma posts information related to the area and items of interest to residents and visitors alike. Its goal is to be informative, humorous, and timely. Hope you enjoy the site.
