The tahoe Quenn, a tourist boat out of South Lake, ran agrounf 1/4 mile off Ski Run Blvd. All passengers were evacuated safely. Coast Guard investigators were on their way from SF to look into the grounding. The Coast Guard has jurisdiction due to bi-state issues.
Bear Alert
15 bear break ins have occurred in T
ahoma in the past 30 days. Little damage was done, but one small kitchen/stove fire was blamed on the intruder. Secure your homes and appliances.
Rainy Weather Brings Relief
Over 1/2 inch of rain has fallen across the basin, tempering dry conditions and giving a break to severe fire conditions. The slow steady rate allowed the moisture to soak in all over the Tahoe National Forest, as opposed to Southern california which experienced severe mud slides in San Bernadino. Visitors to tahoe were not over joyed with the unseasonal weather, but, most folks kept up with their plans, sans beach.
Sunny weather should return tomorrow.
Where We Met Update
Liz F., owner of our local espresso bar is on the mend after a bout of the virus. She should be back in action within a few days. Everybody misses our local smiley face and gelato Queen.
Highway 89
With a bit of rain, all the workers are staying home: safer than working heavy construction in the rain. maybe they'll be back manana. In the meantime, enjoy the smooth traffic flow through Tahoma.
Annual Meeting: TCHA
Saturday was the day of the annual meeting. A chance for locals to say high and listen to a few reports from the assoc. board. Not much happening; membership is down, again. People are too busy? Who knows?
Norfolk Inn Hotel
Work continues, but there has been a definite slow down. Permit issues, etc. But it looks better with paint.
Lake Tahoe, California's Alpine playground, is anchored on the west shore by Homewood/Tahoma, straddling two counties:Placer and El Dorado. The mayor of Tahoma posts information related to the area and items of interest to residents and visitors alike. Its goal is to be informative, humorous, and timely. Hope you enjoy the site.

Summer weekends: Oh, the traffic
Yes, midsummer. Who are those people? They are us. Escaping boredom, noise, concrete. They are here to see tall trees, blue water, cumulus clouds, thunder heads, bikinis, sunburn, cold beer, etc.,etc., etc.
Grab it while you can. Relax, be happy you are not in ___________,__________,_________,________. (Fill in the blanks).
Lucky, no doubt.

Wine in Time: 2013 Vintage
The news you've all been waiting for: the 2013 crush is out of the vat and into the bottle. After weeks of preparation, careful consultation with industry experts, the Mayor finally took a leap of faith(no, not into the vat) and bottle his own Pinot Noir(French variety).
It is 100% Pinot. The color is fantastic-deep reddish purple-the true Pinot color. The aroma is fruity, but not too sweet. The taste, if I say so myself, is excellent. It should improve in the bottle over the next 2-3 years, but can be drunk anytime. The bottling facility at the vineyard served as a good work space and could easily accommodate the equipment, bottles, boxes, corks, caps, etc. The labeling will be done later(printing delay). The Brand: Via Cacciatore (of course) The Hunter Way.
now registered). Alcohol is about right: 13.2%. The clarity is excellent without the necessity of adding clarifiers. The extra time in the barrel helped out in this case.
News reports indicate that some growers are already harvesting the 2014 crop. This coincides with the State of California's announcement of severe drought conditions over 58% of the state. They have also imposed fines for excessive water usage at $500/ per each incident. Incidents like washing cars, letting water run on the sidewalks, or using a hose without a control will all draw the fine. Sounds like Communists are in charge. But, no. They are just self righteous democrats with Jerry Brown at the helm.
Of course, at the next town council meeting , wine will be served to all Tahomans who show up if over 18, are not allergic to sulfites, don't have a drinking problem, are not pregnant, on psychotropic meds, or prone to vocal outbursts after one glass of vino!
An example of the label will be posted as soon as we have one in hand.

New Ministerial Appointment
Held a meeting yesterday with a candidate for a newly created position on the mayor's staff: Minister of United Kingdom Affairs and Western Europe. The feeling is that with the upcoming Scottish Referendum on independence, it behooves Tahomans to have a contact on the ground.
With all of Western Europe going through some economic hard times; and with the Ukraine issue front and center, timely information is a must. A formal announcement will be made soon.
The minister comes from an old and respected family from London. He has studied law, is a barrister, a business man who started his own company in the USA; he has a family, and is comfortable on both coasts, spending time in New England and California. His new home will be in California as his business grows.
More later.

Caribbean Update
Our Minister of Latin American Affairs messaged the mayor's Office: he was being interviewed on Caribbean TV with an update on Security for the regional members of the OAS. The interview was in Spanish with some English spoken by some other members of the media. He is doing an outstanding job.
More on the conference when he gets back to Washington.

Bear Alert>Sugar Pine Pt. Park
The Deputy Mayor was on a neighborhood survey yesterday and encountered a local bruin near the entrance to Sugar Pine S. Park. The bear was off the bike path in some low scrubs, eating when a vehicle on 89 scared the animal and it bolted across the path 20' IFO the Deputy.
The Deputy, a veteran of several such encounters, remained calm, did not run, but waited for the yearling to scamper off into the creek bed and up the hill.
They're BACK! So, play it safe, follow the rules: DON"T RUN(triggers an instinctual response to chase), spread arms wide, yell and throw rocks, make noise.
Happy Summer-welcome August.

Mike the Seal(SEAL)
Ran in to Mike the S.E.A. L. yesterday in downtown Tahoma. Mike's a seasonal local, 2nd generation Tahoman. We caught up on local news now that he's back in the land of the living. After several deployment across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, he's going into the inactive reserves, at least for awhile.
In the meantime, he's shopping for a house off Pine St. The Mayor will put him in the capable hands of Tahoma Realty and he'll have a house(or lot to build on) in no time. He'll make a nice addition to the 'hood. He can't wait for Homewood Mountain Resort to become a reality. neither can we.
Welcome to Mike the SEAL
